"White Powder" scare at Boston, Mass. Federal Courthouse
BOSTON -- A white powder was found inside a piece of mail at the Boston Federal Courthouse on Wednesday.

A secretary on the third floor opened the envelope containing the substance.

The Hazmat team was called and at least one floor was evacuated.

The powder ended up being a food product, officials said.

Authorities are still investigating.

3. Udate: Powder sent in a manner intended to cause panic
Edited on Wed Jul-18-07 07:57 PM by IanDB1
<snip>

Someone found white powder in the package, according to WBZ. The white powder is harmless. The Globe reports that it was a food product (flour?), but it was suspicious because it was "sent to a judge in an envelope that was designed to incite panic."

And we all know how sensitive Boston can be.

It also wasn't just a little bit of powder:

So much of the white powder had been packed into the envelope sent to US District Judge Morris E. Lasker that it spilled all over the clerk who opened it and on to two other people.
