DPA: US security men bring their own C4 plastic explosives to G8 meeting

German surveillance machinery detected the tiny stash in a suitcase in a car and the Americans in plainclothes then identified themselves. German police declined comment.

Amerikaner testeten Sprengstoff-Schmuggel

US-Sicherheitskräfte haben die Kontrollen um den G8-Gipfel in Heiligendamm nach dpa-Informationen mit dem Transport einer geringen Menge Sprengstoff getestet. Der in einem Koffer versteckte Plastiksprengstoff vom Typ C4 sei von den deutschen Polizeibeamten an einer Kontrollstelle in einem Auto entdeckt worden, erfuhr die Deutsche Presse-Agentur am Donnerstag. Obwohl es sich um eine «sehr kleine Menge» gehandelt habe, schlug die Durchleuchtungstechnik Alarm, hieß es. Daraufhin hätten sich die zivil gekleideten Fahrzeuginsassen als US-Sicherheitskräfte zu erkennen gegeben.

Die G8-Polizeieinheit Kavala wollte den Vorfall vom Dienstag auf Anfrage nicht bestätigen. Sprecher Axel Falkenberg wies lediglich darauf hin, dass die Polizei für solche Fälle ein engmaschiges Sicherheitsnetz errichtet habe. Zur Kontrolle würden auch speziell trainierte Spürhunde eingesetzt.

It was reported on the 7th and they say it was "Dienstag" which is Tuesday and probabbly June 5th
