Description:
North Clayton Middle School was evacuated Friday when contractors burst a gas line in the building. No injuries were reported, said Clayton schools spokesman Charles White.

Firefighters found the leak and turned off the gas shortly after the 11 a.m. evacuation order, said Clayton fire spokesman Lt. Billy Rice.The students initially were taken to Northcutt Elementary School, but they were later sent to North Clayton High School to finish the day, said White.

Students who walk home or ride school buses will be dropped off from North Clayton High School, White said. Parents who wish to pick up their children from North Clayton High School can go to that campus before dismissal, which is about 3:45 p.m., said White.

North Clayton High School is at 1525 Norman Dr., College Park.White said the school system sent telephone messages to parents about the possible leak and the evacuation of the campus.
