I'm interested in what people on DU have to say about this. Maybe this has been discussed before but I just got emailed this by a republican retired computer engineering friend.

Seems like they want to blame any warming on solar (sun spots) activities. Say CO2 is not relevant. Most of film is about conspiracy of global warming movement to shut them up so global warming scientists can collect all the research dollars. Finally they attack global warming activists for being anti african by making the developing world only get electricity from wind and solar methods.

2. I checked out one of these people
Carl Wunsch has this statement:

"Thus at bottom, it is very difficult to separate human induced change from natural change, certainly not with the confidence we all seek. In these circumstances, it is essential to remember that the inability to prove human-induced change is not the same thing as a demonstration of its absence. It is probably true that most scientists would assign a very high probability that human-induced change is already strongly present in the climate system, while at the same time agreeing that clear-cut proof is not now available and may not be available for a long-time to come, if ever. Public policy has to be made on the basis of probabilities, not firm proof."

It sounds to me like he's on the side of saying we'd better do something about it.

4. Check out this site on Lindzen...

It takes Singer to task too. Maybe some others as well. As for Singer, he was responsible for something called the Oregon Project. According to right wingers it is a petition signed by 17,000 global warming scientist claiming global warming is not happening. In fact anybody who held a degree of any sort was invited to sign.

ON EDIT:

Another favorite tactic of the wingnuts is to quote scientists out of context. For instance if a scientist said "There is no reason to expect global warming is caused by anything other than human environment interaction." They will edit the statement to say "There is no reason to expect global warming..."

3. It's Fahrenheit 9-11 all over again
Edited on Wed Mar-21-07 09:27 PM by StClone
Remember when Michael Moore slapped the Wing nuts silly and as per usual they didn't see the facts presented but a parallel world of interpretation? To this day they condemn Moore and counter F9-11 facts with lies, delusions, misstatements and misinterpretations.

Same here against Gore. Beat the messenger while you confuse and soil the facts.

The vast resources of the Energy Biz and assorted Winger attack funds bear more alternate interpretations.

Heres Another: http://www.opinionjournal.com/extra/?id=110008597

They are popping up like hallucinogenic mushrooms on cow pies after a pleasant spring rain.

Have these people ever wondered why they have to work so hard against Occam's Razor to rest their case on convoluted conjectures and invention rather than the Science that seems to have a proven track record?

Search "Gore Wrong on Facts" and see what you get -- a whole norther logic system spews forth.
