Concord New Hampshire Hits Warmest January Day In 130 Years - Concord Monitor
A higher-than-normal jet stream and spate of balmy weather made yesterday Concord's warmest January day in 130 years. Unofficial highs reached 69 degrees in the capital city, according to AccuWeather, smashing the previous record of 57 set in 1946. The only warmer January day on record was New Year's 1876, when Concord thermometers hit 72 degrees.

At the Weather Observatory atop Mount Washington, the high was 43 degrees, breaking a record of 37 degrees, also set in 1946. Normally, it would be 10 degrees on the summit this time of year.

It hit 70 degrees in Nashua and Portsmouth, but don't break out the bathing suits yet. Temperatures were expected to plummet about 20 degrees overnight, and forecasters say snow showers are possible next week.

"It looks like it will be coming to an end here, at least the really, really unseasonably warm air," said John Feerick, AccuWaether.com meteorologist. "What we've been seeing is not going to continue. Once we get this cold shot here, we may get a little bit of a warmup, but there's some much colder air building up across Canada, and that's going to be working its way east."
