Men Use Phones to Flirt

Research by Sheffield Hallam University and Virgin Mobile is reporting that British men consider their mobile phone an important status symbol - particularly in helping to attract the opposite sex. The research reveals that in an age when technology is king, and competition is rife, men see their phones as a tool to help them impress women. The study observed men and women in various different public locations including: restaurants, bars, coffee shops, shopping centres and pubs.

It revealed that many men believe that 'Bond-esque' phones with gadgets including video cameras and mp3 players will make them more desirable to females.

Furthermore, the research which also included focus groups and questionnaire surveys found that in social situations men actively display their phones and its capabilities in a bid to look important and popular. The research suggests that this is done primarily to attract females but also used to show off and gain status with other men in their peer group.

Dr Simeon Yates, Director of the Cultural, Communication and Computing Research Institute at Sheffield Hallam University said: "We are really pleased to have teamed up with Virgin Mobile on this groundbreaking research project. The first results reveal key differences in how men and women use their mobiles. We have found that men put their mobiles on show a great deal of the time when in public. One interpretation of this is that mobile phones are used as a vehicle to impress women and show off to other men."

1. Different cultures, different strokes
I find myself being attracted to men with power tools more than cell phones.

4. British guys, listen: NOTHING helps men get laid.
Thinking you'll improve your chances with women with bling is a classic mistake. Women assume that the showplace toys are a sign that you're rich, and therefore a good prospect for marriage or, at minimum, a good palimony suit. When they see you taking your expensive phone and clothes out to dinner at a greasy corner fisn 'n' chips shop, they'll know you're a poseur.

Take it from an American who's been through it all; nothing will help you get laid. Give up. Go do something useful with your life instead of hunting for women. A good alternative suggestion for you Brits: get rid of that poodle prime minister of yours and elect someone worthy of your nation. We're working to do something similar on this side of the Atlantic.

11. Shhh!!!! you're giving away the secret.
If we can't sucker guys into this bullshit we won't be able to sell them all the crap in mens' consumer porn magazines like Maxaam.

Next you'll be telling them that women don't really like sex.

12. Not only don't women like sex...
...at least the way men do it, they really don't like men. They know they biologically need to use us, not only for reproduction but for financial support and for someone to take the bullets for them, but they really think we're pretty useless for anything else.

See, I want to destroy more than Maxim...I want to kill the appeal of Cosmopolitan, too. The less we have of these lousy illusions, the sooner we can ignore all this sex nonsense and start working on practical immortality.

5. Don't generalize about women
one woman's meat is another woman's poison. Same with men. What attracts us to each other? Some scientists say smell. SUVs and other toys? Get real. There are many different kinds of women in the world. Only a nitwit would be interested in a man cuz of the car he drives or his gadgets.

8. Age related - back in time
For all you real youngsters out there :

"It ain't the meat, it's the motion" is one of the golden oldies from the days when double meaning lyrics stopped the major labels from releasing all the really good stuff recorded by the black groups of those days - 40's - early fifties R & B. Other classics were " I love to play your piano - Let me bang your box" and "Keep on churnin' 'till the butter runs dry".

The two CDs with most of them on are Risque Rhythm - Nasty 50's R & B and The Copulatin' Blues which is earlier jazz numbers. If of any interest and you can't find them then PM me.

Yes - vibrate mode would be appropriate.

9. I'm sitting here trying to figure
how you get a tree out of lake using a mobile 'phone. :)

I might have agreed with their comments if the survey had been done in 1989. If it's true now I guess it just expresses the current general level of intelligence of UK girls. Maybe they're all called Vicky. To understand that search "vicky pollard little britain" on youtube.

10. If this is true...
I see a graduate thesis for somebody involving the sexual selection of cel-phone traits. Features evolving in cel-phones that contribute nothing to basic survival needs. To say nothing of the co-evolution of cel-phones and male human phenotype...

14. Then again, there's this recent story
Men who use mobile phones face increased risk of infertility

If nothing else, selection pressure will eventually extinguish this behavior....;)

15. Research sponsored by phone company on phone website says
"men - buy a phone to get laid". Wow, colour me surprised. And the astonishment factor rockets when they mention a new movie to give papers desperate for any copy a reason to publish it.
