Himalayan glacier melting fears "unfounded"
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2010/jan/20/ipcc-himalayan-glaciers-mistake

IPCC officials admit admit a claim that Himalayan glaciers could melt away by 2035 was unfounded. Another case of a true believer exaggerating basic facts to frighten the public at large. Makes you wonder what other doomer predictions were grossly exaggerated in the IPCC report.

By the way, which global warming computer model predicted the unusually cold weather this year in the Northern Hemisphere? After all, the computer models are sooooo accurate.

1. Do you know the difference between "weather" and "climate"?
Your comments suggest that you do not.

5. A lot of fiction is being told about climate change, that's for sure.
And it ain't from the science camp.

6. More heat in the system = more intense weather systems.
More intense weather systems = more extreme weather. ALL EXTREMES. Hot and cold. Wet and dry.

But if you paid attention to the many posts here explaining that in more detail you'd already know that.

4. Global Climate Models are not Local Weather Models.
They do share some code but in the end GCMs are designed to cover long term trends.

9. Hmm ... a few years ago in Cleveland Ohio
(one of the few places on Earth that actually begs for global warming, just behind Buffalo NY)

I attended our downtown Cleveland Christmas party ... in late December ... in a light jacket. 50s or so after the sun went down.

I'll see your snowfall in January and raise you Lake Effect snow ... with an explanation similar to how Hurricane Katrina picked up ferocity over the Gulf of Mexico.

10. Climate Denial Industry Blowing Hot Air On Himalayan Glaciers
Climate Denial Industry Blowing Hot Air On Himalayan Glaciers

The climate denial industry is once again trying to make a huge to-do about a tiny error by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

With the Climategate Swifthack episode fading from the limelight, after a thorough debunking of far-fetched accusations that scientists made up global warming, the climate science attack machine now wants the world to focus on one paragraph out of a 938-page, three-year-old report.

The contrarians are questioning a single reference to Himalayan glaciers included in a 2007 IPCC report that does not meet the IPCC’s well-established evidentiary standards.

11. Here's something you won't ever see in a story about deniers:
Edited on Wed Jan-20-10 10:46 PM by caraher
The headline of the article in the OP begins, "IPCC officials admit mistake"

You will NEVER see the deny/delay crowd admit a mistake. Of any kind. Ever.

12. The Himalayan Glaciers are melting, and at an increasing pace

An error was made by mixing research with opinion giving a date that was intended as a attention grabber, not a prediction.

The Himalayan Glaciers are melting. They will continue to do so until they are gone, or we get our act together and stop warming our planet by burning massive amounts of dirty fossil fuels
