Who is turning their lights out for Earth Hour tonight?
Edited on Sat Mar-28-09 05:20 PM by GliderGuider
One hour at 8:30pm local time.

I plan to power down and spend the hour in meditation. When you do it don't forget to turn off your computer.

6. I have a hydro powered light in my shower.
I'm guessing that's OK, so it's either wash my hair or sit on the porch with the solar lights or take a nap.

19. Actually he's a pretty good one.
Edited on Sat Mar-28-09 07:25 PM by FLyellowdog
Everybody seems to like him and he's a good problem solver...and they seem to have a LOT of problems from time to time. He's been with the FAA since 1973 and he loves it...liked controlling traffic the best, but alas...he got too old. :hi:

Most are just failed controllers and management stooges.

12. Does It Really Make A Difference?
I mean, does turning off the power for one hour once a year really make a difference in the big scheme of things? I am asking because I really want to know, not be snide - what is the point?

You know, I'm in Central Florida and we probably hit 90 today which really helps me be aware of global warming. But anyway, I didn't turn on the a/c today - I just sort of dealt with it (by being lazy).

So, isn't it better to be a little more aware of how we use energy all day all year rather than going dark for one hour?

18. yeah, it's better to reduce energy use all year long.
however, i'm going to do it mostly for a lark. global warming isn't my big issue. unions and buying American are my interests. however, i like most of the people who are passionate about conservation of energy, so i'm doing it for them.

28. To overall electricity consumption? No.
To the state of your own heart? Quite possibly. Think of it as a statement of intention, spoken mostly to yourself.

Even being conscious of your electricity use all year long isn't going to make any difference in the big picture. It may make a difference to your own utility bill, but the biggest effect is still from "speaking your commitment into a mirror".

23. It turned out that I really needed that meditation time.
Although the dog wasn't quite sure what to make of it all. When I just kept sitting there and declined to play with him in the dark, he finally went to sleep in the kitchen. The time slipped by, full of heart.

32. We did
When all the lights were out and I told the kid that meant her laptop too, she pulled the power cord out of the back and grinned at me. New manga to read meant she made sure to charge up her battery.
It was nice with the candles. We could see several houses on the street behind us go dark, too.

Love to know if there are any numbers on this.
