KITTERY, Maine — It's funny how a few unrelated events can change one's entire outlook on life.

Charlie Case and Sherry Walworth have lived in their home in Kittery for eight years. Just up from the back gate of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, the front of their home faces Route 103 and the back looks out over the Piscataqua River.

This spring, the roof started to leak. Just before the roof leaked, their car broke down and, coincidentally, their neighbors were having some construction work done.

They decided to take a look at a Toyota Prius. Fuel costs certainly had their attention, as did global warming and the potential resource shortages associated with fossil fuels.
