New Wind Power For Nova Scotia (240 MW)
http://www.renewableaccess.com/rea/news/story?id=50765

Nova Scotia Power announced it is negotiating contracts with independent power producers for 240 megawatts (MW) of new wind energy. This installation will represent an investment of more than $500 million for wind turbines and associated construction. The contracts for the energy produced by wind turbines will be worth approximately $1.5 billion over the life of the contracts.

"We will more than quadruple the amount of wind energy produced in Nova Scotia, at competitive prices."--Ralph Tedesco, President and CEO, Nova Scotia Power

This addition of wind energy capacity represents the largest investment in new power generation in Nova Scotia since construction of the Point Aconi generating station in 1992. The company said power purchase agreements are planned to be signed by the end of this year. Installation of turbines is scheduled to take place before the end of 2009.

1. Wonder where they will put the turbines...
and if there will be any flak from coastal home owners or neighbors to the wind farm.

3. There might be good financial incentives for rural land owners to lease
land for wind towers like there are in the upper Midwest and Texas. They are finding it to be a win-win arrangement in those places.

4. Sounds cool and all that
Is the 240 megawatts the expected average hourly output, or the instantaneous production at peak generating wind speed?
