Solar power plant proposed for Boron (109 MW, Califronia)

BORON - A Chino Hills company is proposing to build a $138 million, 109-megawatt solar power plant just outside of Boron - a project that is part of a wave of solar energy proposals coming forward as the state government pushes to expand renewable energy sources.

Ecosystem Solar Electric Corp. is proposing to build the solar plant on 40 acres located one mile east of Boron. The Boron site is closed to transmission lines, a power substation, and gas lines, said Nick Panchev, the company's chief executive officer.

The plant will use a technology called Concentrated Solar Power which uses sunlight to heat water or another heat-transferring fluid to generate steam. The steam is used to spin a turbine and generate electricity.

"We are using off-the-shelf products and putting them into a unique design," Panchev said.
