US treasury wants donations to pay off national debt
The Christmas season is quickly approaching and Washington is certainly in the holiday spirit as they are asking Americans to help pay off the national debt by donating to the Treasury.

As the holiday season approaches, Washington is hoping that Americans will be in the Christmas spirit over the next several weeks as the United States Treasury is asking their citizens to donate whatever amount they can to help pay off the $12 trillion national debt, according to Reuters.

Are you interested? Well, the Treasury released the information on their website and all you have to do is send a gift or a check payable to the Bureau of Public Debt. Treasury spokesperson Kim Treat said that a lot of people send checks and in the last fiscal year it added up to nearly $3 million, which is the largest since 1996.
Majority of the reasons for donating whatever they have is either patriotism or a form of gratitude by immigrants for allowing them into their country. The largest single donation ever made, according to Mckayla Barden, a spokesperson for the Bureau of Public Debt, was $3.5 million.

WHNT News 19 reports that a lot of the people they spoke to have never heard of the 1961 law, which allows the government to accept donations to pay down the debt and they’re even tax deductible.

1. Tell Timmy to beg from his friends at Goddamn Sucks
They have the money. And it's all stolen, so they shouldn't have it anyway.

2. Let's see... $3 million per year should get that paid off in FOUR MILLION YEARS.
That is if the debt doesn't increase at all in the intervening years. :eyes:

5. I'm sure everyone will feel
all warm and cozy and send their checks right away. Foreclosures and unemployment wont get in the way of the giving spirit. Everyone will be eager to add to the debt burden they were already handed against their will with the TARP bailout. Right?
