If you were invested in the stock market in 2000-2002, even through mutual funds,
and you were MINIMALLY invested in the high tech sector, how did you make out?

1. The only vaguely high tech stock my dad had were Comcast
and Verizon and I dumped them both in favor of a broadcasting stock he had that I thought was slightly undervalued.

The broadcasting stock has done very well. Comcast and Verizon have lagged.

5. I lost about 40%
However, that is kind of unfair. The stock market has ALWAYS gone up and down. You should NEVER invest money in the market that you need in 5-10 years. If you include years prior to or after that, I have a return MUCH greater than I could have gotten outside the market.

3. Relatives of mine lost half of their million dollars in stock investments
They had just about recuperated from the steep losses as of this past fall, until the recent market retreat. They would have been much better off in fixed income investments from 2000 through the present as stock market has not been a good place during Bush years for those near or in retirement, even with the Bush tax breaks.
