AirAmericaRadio.com vs. ClearChannel.com traffic graph (cool stats)
http://traffic.alexa.com/graph?w=640&h=480&r=3m&u=airamericaradio.com/&u=clearchannel.com

I can't make it pull the image into the post, but click on one of the links and you'll see the traffic stats for the two webpages. It might not last, but for now, Air America's website is getting a lot more traffic than Clear Channel's. If only Air America radio had the reach of Clear Channel radio.

1. That is really misleading
AirAmerica is the only source for their stream, the bulf of CC's streams are done from affiliate station websites. Also, I assume the radio market is much, much higher than the internet stream market.

Also, there is a buzz last week over the stations.

2. It is not misleading, it shows website traffic stats
Edited on Sun Apr-04-04 06:00 PM by Democat
That shows a comparison of the traffic to the websites, not the number of listeners to the radio station. Nowhere in the post or on the website does it say that it shows anything but website traffic, therefore it is not misleading.

The fact that Air America is getting more traffic to their website than Clear Channel is a fact, and a great thing for liberals.

If it was the other way around, it would be a huge story on Drudge Report and other right wing websites.

4. I personally think
you are reading way too much into this. Now, a month from now, website traffic may have a meaning, but right now its a red herring.

Let the media interviews stop, let the moderates choose if they want to listen, let the traffic stabilize, then it will have meaning.

Right now the amount of traffic to these sites is completely meaningless in the grand scope of things, and you are only diluting yourself if you think this shows any kind of effect AA is having on America.

6. Undermining the left.
Nah, the argument undermines itself. Credibility is important - a strategy of "say anything supportive and see if it sticks" works against that.

8. One way the right wins in the media is by amplifying and downplaying
Edited on Sun Apr-04-04 06:49 PM by Democat
The right has a much louder voice in the U.S. media than the left.

They use that voice to amplify that which makes them look good and they use that voice to try to silence that which makes them look bad or which makes the other side look good. It is a very effective media strategy, and one that Democrats could learn from.

If the rolls were reversed and the left controlled talk radio and the right was just now launching their own network, Drudge and every other right wing voice would be promoting every small victory by the right over the left. They would use those victories, even small ones, to help promote their network and also to add credibility to the enterprise in its infancy.

When our side has small victories, rather than amplify it, many on the left would rather downplay them or attack them. This is not unlike the problem we have with so many on the left trying to undermine Kerry because he isn't perfect, while those on the right try to defend and strengthen Bush.

The left is often self defeating. There is also the issue of the occasional DU user who calls the party the "Democrat Party". :)

Either way, we should be fighting to win.

9. I guess I'll take a page from Al Franken himself on this one.
We have to fight back. But we can't fight like they do. The Right's entertainment value comes from their willingness to lie and distort. Ours will have to come from being funny and attractive.
- Al Franken, Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look At the Right

Anyone can see that web site statistics for a radio station mean about jack. It's self-evident, and that other guy pointed that out. If we're the only ones pretending like this means anything, it just makes us look like liars, and I don't want to downplay our better reputation as not being liars right now - it's an advantage we have.

3. They should be impressed!
I know I listeden on the net because there are no stations broadcasting here. There were 2 times that I know of that the broadcast died because of server overload.

Air America is very new and most of the broadcasters hae a lot to learn, but I'm very glad that they are there and they will learn with experience just like the rest did.

11. Their problem is Real Audio
I hate real audio, I pulled real auido from my radio station because they cap how many listeners you can have based on the amount of money you paied for the server.

I think they should change to Shoutcast. Its open souce and the number of listerns you can achieve per server is soley internet connection and the speed of your computer.

12. Not a good comparison
I doubt many streaming radio fans go directly to Clear Channel's corporate site.

But I had a little fun with this. I decided to compare AA to our very own DU. Here's how it went:

http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?&range=3m&size=large&compare_sites=Democraticunderground.com&url=http://www.airamericaradio.com#graph

Looks like they had a spike a few days ago and eclipsed us.

And... if traffic is a tell-tale sign, a comparison between Kerry's and Bush's respective sites:
