Debates bad: panel discussion instead, much better

Debates are cruel to candidates, and do not show them doing what a president does.. thus are not good indicators of who would be a better prez.

A prez takes some time to consider a policy, and gets input. Debating is not part of the job.

A good debater may be a lousy prez.. O'reilley is my proof.

Debates are cruel stress to put on a guy. Plus, he might just be having a bad day. We stress our candidates too much in just the primary elections alone.

End the sadistic spectacle of debates, and instead have each guy with an expert team, give short presentations of their view on each issue. A chalkboard could be used, to chart a view when possible.

A panel on each side. Replies to the other side would follow, but without any interruption by the enemy. Interruption often lets the bullies win. Keeping all talk brief would avoid boredom.

Whatever the format I do think- no matter who is getting the advantages of style over substance- that in the long run the Dem candidate should strive to set fairness and seriousness in stone to end the shallow charades which endanger our republic. Carter was fair enough to Reagan, just too naive. The cheating took place outside the debate room when they stole Carter's book. By the time the debate started Reagan could probably do a better reading of Carter's poems than Carter himself.

Still, the formats should be totally removed from partisan tinkering and just one facet of a systematized presentation of candidates(likewise sanitized from slick style interference). No more Super Bowl and valueless strategy. No corporate schmoes paying and regulating the debate. And prohibit all network spin for 24 hours.

The fact that Kennedy was the first to benefit from TV style does not mean it is a great thing. It has not prevented very unappealing unqualified and corporate GOP trolls from winning using these tactics.
Make things fair, free from corruption and open the windows to new parties, new voices.
