Dean responds (already) to ClubforGrowth ad
http://blog.deanforamerica.com/archives/002520.html

Special Interests Attack Dean
Just two weeks ago, the RNC launched an ad in Iowa questioning the patriotism of those who opposed this president's reckless foriegn policy. Bush attacked-- and you responded, raising more than $608,000 to tell the truth about what Bush has done to our country.

And today, they're at it again. The Club for Growth-- a corporate-backed group whose goal is "to bundle campaign donations for pro-business Republicans"-- is attacking Howard Dean by name in television ads that are going up in Iowa and New Hampshire.

Last month, you declared your independence from the special interests. Now they're trying to define and distort Howard Dean's record in an attempt to slow your campaign.

Will we see another bat?

1. Read the ad script
"I'm Howard Dean. I approved this message because they’re not trying to stop me, they’re trying to stop you."

Yowsa.

3. man...
...the people-power are gonna have to support one another and carry forth boldly. this will continue, week in and week out, between now and November. We are beating them back, and they will do what Russia did during the Cold War. The GOP will spend themselves into debt and misery in their effort to puff themselves up. and the more they do it, the more they demonstrate the true nature of what they fear...they fear an informed and active civic spirit.

4. I don't get it
If the republicans want Dean so badly, why are they attacking him now?

When Richard Riordan was running for Governor of CA against Gray Davis, Davis spent millions tarnishing Riordan, costing him the nomination of the Republican party and giving it to inept Bill Simon. And Davis smothered Simon. Looks to me like the repukes are trying that with Dean, hoping to get their biggest threat out of the way; HA! Good luck!

5. The RNC (and related folks) got used to dealing
with the pink tutu crowd for 2 years. I do not think they get it yet, that Dean (and we supporters) will fight back every inch of the way. We are about to witness just what a true grassroots campaign can do finacially (fundraising).

7. they attack now because they think he is a done deal
The republicans think Dean is likely to win and so they want to get busy "defining" him to the electorate. Also, some mild attacks actually reinforce Dean because the news media will cover Dean and not the competitors.

6. I didn't even wait for the bat this time.
Just sent $50 more. They're doing exactly what I want to see in a campaign, striking back at every attack.
