Survey finds top Democrats in dead heat (Oklahoma)

If the Democratic presidential primary were held today, Sen. Joe Lieberman would get the most votes in Oklahoma, according to a poll commissioned by The Oklahoman.

The poll by Oklahoma Opinion Quarterly, a project of Wilson Research Strategies Inc., shows 10 percent of voters would choose Lieberman.

Retired Gen. Wesley Clark and former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean each would receive 9 percent of the votes, and U.S. Rep. Dick Gephardt would come in a close third. Eight percent of respondents said they would cast a vote for the Missouri lawmaker.

Of those surveyed, 5 percent said they would vote for Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass. North Carolina Sen. John Edwards garnered 3 percent. The Rev. Al Sharpton and former Illinois Sen. Carol Moseley Braun each received 2 percent, and 1 percent said they would vote for Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich.

This is good news for Dean, because he supposedly isn't supposed to be able do well in the South.

2. I wouldn't count on it

Other candidates will have momuntum from their successes in earlier states, enabling them to overcome Lieberman. Addiationally, Dean will have a lot of people on the ground to boost his chances.

it is basically a open race and the results from Iowa and NH will have a lot to say because of the media attention. But Good news for Dean because many think he doesn't have much support in the south, but this poll is just the latest to disprove that notion. Latest poll out of Florida has Dean in second place only 4-points behind Lieberman, He is running a solid second behind home-stater Edwards in North Carolina, and he is right in the thick of things in South Carolina.
