Kerry waffles on Saudi Arabia. Bashed Dean for same position he just took.
When candidates were asked how their foreign policies would reflect concern for women’s rights on the international stage, Dean took criticism from Kerry for indicating he would impose sanctions on Saudi Arabia .

“Before you shoot from the hip and sanction Saudi Arabia ,” Kerry said, “consider what we get from Saudi Arabia .”

Vowing to reverse President Bush's foreign policies, Democrat John Kerry is outlining new plans to stem "a widespread and widening network of terrorists," such as targeting Saudi Arabia for sanctions and naming a special ambassador to the Mideast perhaps Bill Clinton.

...

Kerry's campaign said he would announce tough new actions to deny terrorist sanctuaries, cut off terrorist financing and improve intelligence. He also planned deal with what the campaign called Saudi Arabia's "marriage of convenience with terrorists," including imposing economic sanctions unless the Arab nation cracks down on terrorism.

Kerry is running his campaign into the ground.

1. Don't forget choosing BFEE enablers Poppy and Baker
for Mideast envoy if Kerry was president. That's the WORST thing he can do.

6. Surely somebody from Kamp Kerry can explain the "nuance" to me?
It's not like Kerry ever really waffles, right? It's all a big conspiracy in the press, right?

7. Kerry knows Dean doesn't know WTF he's saying.
Edited on Wed Dec-03-03 08:27 PM by blm
And that's why he's warning him to be careful. Kerry, otoh, knows how NOT to say the wrong thing for serious diplomatic concerns while still being tough.

Howard "Gary, what do I do?" Dean has no real clue. Did he have advisors close at hand? heh

8. Then why did Kerry say the same thing?
That's what the question was in this thread. Why did Kerry criticize Dean for suggesting sanctions against Saudi Arabia and then today suggest sanctions against Saudi Arabia himself?

Kerry's mouth.

13. Let me clue you in, kbf. (And Mrs. kbf, too.)
Edited on Wed Dec-03-03 09:09 PM by RUMMYisFROSTED
Dean lies. Kerry nuances.
Dean waffles. Kerry takes ponderous consideration of relevent new information.
Dean has no foreign policy expertise. Kerry single-handedly put American foreign policy on the map.
Dean is angry. Kerry has gravitas.
Dean copies Kerry in wholecloth. Kerry trailblazes.
Dean is loved by the media. Kerry is ignored and hated by the media.
Dean leads by double digits. Kerry trails by double digits.

Keep these "facts"/notions/paranoias in mind, before you glibly respond in the future, kbf! :D

And now for the truth:

Dean nuances. Kerry nuances.
Dean takes ponderous consideration of relevent new information. Kerry checks the effect of an action on his career before deciding.
Dean believes respect plays an important role in foreign policy. Kerry sticks his finger in the air.
Dean is furious (with Chimpublicans). Kerry has gravitas.
Dean trailblazes. Kerry follows.
The Dean phenomena intrigues the media. The Kerry phenomena bores the media.
Dean leads by double digits. Kerry trails by double digits.

Got it, Mr. and Mrs. Factory?

10. Sorry
and I mean it, I don't know anyone who cares what Kerry says. The main reason is he says nothing. Sad.

Kerry says sanctions, December 3, 2003. (After bagging Dean on the idea a month earlier)

Maybe Kerry should have a "Hart to Hart."

15. He never said that
I just watched the entire speech and the Q&A on C-Span and he never said that he'd impose sanctions on Saudi Arabia. He did say discuss the problems with Saudi Arabia, as he always has. It was a brilliant speech, you ought to watch it instead of picking out second-hand quotes.

He and several other Democrats proposed Clinton 2 years ago. The idea is to stop creating peace processes from scratch with every new administration. To rely on those who have gone before, such as Clinton, Carter, Baker, Skowcroft; and even create a bipartisan team. It's brilliant and it's too bad people can't see past the BFEE to the bigger picture, peace in the Middle East.

Sometimes there really are bigger priorities and bigger enemies than the Bush family. Kerry gets that. Too bad too many others are more into sound bytes. The reason we have a crappy media is because people obviously buy into it. All you have to do is look at Dean and Bush to know that.

16. "rely on those who have gone before"
Kerry might as well appoint Kissinger too. next Kerry will propose retaining Rumsfeld's Office of Special Plans to implement his (Kerry's) "enlightened" foreign policy. Give me a break, the man is entrenched in the Cabal. He supposedly "investigated" them during Iran-Contra but now he proposes including him in his administration. No fucking thank you!!
