"What I want is electability. Clark has it. Lieberman could," the computer salesman says.
Canvasser Jenny Martinez, already a veteran of thousands of such doorframe pitches, smiles and snaps back quickly.
"I'm trying to think how I can move you to Lieberman," she says. Jozitis chuckles. You can't, he says. It's too soon.
That in a nutshell is why Joe Lieberman believes he can break through in New Hampshire's Jan. 27 primary. It's why, from Nov. 3 to 19, Lieberman or a member of his family is campaigning in this state, and why the senator plans to spend most of January here.
This is a fairly new strategy after months of paying some attention to New Hampshire, but nothing like this. Lieberman strategists decided last month it was crucial for him to finish third in New Hampshire.
So he all but pulled out of Iowa and began pouring people and resources into New Hampshire.<SNIP>
