Graham defends argument for impeachment
http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/07/27/graham.impeach/index.html

Sen. Bob Graham defended his assertion that President Bush's actions in making the case for the war in Iraq reach the standard of an impeachable offense set by Republicans against former President Clinton.

"Clearly, if the standard is now what the House of Representatives did in the impeachment of Bill Clinton, the actions of this president much more serious in terms of dereliction of duty," the Florida Democrat and presidential hopeful said on "Fox News Sunday."

1. Even Durbin disagrees with this
But another prominent Democratic critic of the Iraq war, Sen. Richard Durbin of Illinois, said Sunday that "the evidence doesn't support" Graham's comments about impeachment.

"There is absolutely no evidence that the president knowingly misled the American people," Durbin said on CNN's "Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer." "I've never made that charge, nor have I heard it made from any credible source.

"But it is clear that those around misled him, and misled the American people indirectly, by making certain that there were claims made that couldn't be backed up with evidence."

and Durbin certainly has a bone to pick with the White House.

2. That statement sure doesn't make it sounds like he has a bone to pick.
"Durbin certainly has a bone to pick with the White House."

Sounds to me more like he has something in common with the WH, and is doing everything he can to help them with a cover story for Bunnypants.

7. He certainly is pissed at the White House
Senator Accuses White House of Retaliation

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A Democratic lawmaker accused the White House on Tuesday of trying to have him removed from the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee in retaliation for remarks critical of the administration over Iraq.

Sen. Richard Durbin of Illinois charged that the White House had floated a bogus story that he had disclosed classified information regarding Iraq's suspected weapons of mass destruction.

"The White House allegations ... were, in fact, false, and inaccurate," Durbin said on the Senate floor.

"Sadly, what we have here is a continuing pattern by this White House," Durbin said. "If any member of this Senate ... questions this White House policy ... be prepared for the worst."

Does that sound like someone who would "doing everything he can to help them?"

5. read his words
he's not saying that we should impeach bush. he's saying that if clinton's impeachment set the requirements, then this far exceeds the necessary wrong-doing. but seeing as how graham was adamantly against clinton's impeachment, he must agree that the level set by that impeachment was too low, therefore making his statement inoperative.

6. It's so frustrating...
...that people hear what they want to, and end up twisting someone's words to alter the intended meaning.

I think Graham explained his thoughts quite well. He scored points with me from his stint on MTP.
