LA: Blanco, Jindal head for photo finish (new poll)
Poll shows hopefuls with scant separation

Friday October 24, 2003

By Ed Anderson
Capital bureau

BATON ROUGE -- Democratic Lt. Gov. Kathleen Blanco and Republican former state Health and Hospitals Secretary Bobby Jindal are running neck-and-neck in the race for governor, according to an independent poll released Thursday.

Although respondents statewide preferred Blanco by a razor-thin margin of 42.7 percent to Jindal's 40.5 percent, the difference is well within the poll's 4 percent margin of error, according to pollster Bernie Pinsonat of Southern Media and Opinion Research of Baton Rouge.

Undecided voters made up 16.8 percent of the sample.

Blanco's acceptable rating is 65.5 percent, while Jindal's is 61.9 percent. Both candidates had an unacceptable rating of 25.4 percent.

2. Blanco hasn't been running TV spots....
I've seen a couple maybe and Jindal's all over the place. Oddly enough, nobody's gone negative yet... that's unusual. Only 3 weeks left.

3. May be looking at a runnoff down there...
But I'd give A LOT to see a "trifecta" of governorships go our way in about ten days--Blanco, Chandler, and Musgrove!:D

:kick:

B-)

5. Well
Blanco wins by 1-5% percentage points, mirroring how Landrieu fared in 2002.

6. This is a VERY important race
We MUST win in Louisiana.

<snip>
...A fervent Roman Catholic convert, he (Jindal) has embraced the views of Louisiana's largest voting bloc, white conservatives: opposition to abortion, with no exceptions; rejection of gun control; promotion of religion in public life; hostility to affirmative action; and questioning of evolution and tolerance for creationism.
<snip>

Now, granted, Kathleen Blanco isn't liberal enough for many of us. But she will be a great deal better than Jindal. Louisiana DUers: Hold your nose if you have to, but PLEASE get to the polls on Nov. 15 and vote Blanco.

8. holding my nose in New Orleans
I will hold my nose and vote for Blanco. I'm currently holding my nose and putting a Blanco bumper sticker on my car. I don't like her very much but she's a hell of a lot better than Jindal...

9. Holding our noses, too
But we have a Blanco sign in our yard. Our house hasn't gotten egged yet, even though we are surrounded by nothing but Repukes in this neighborhood.
