Dean Spares No Opponent as He Sprints Across Iowa
MONTROSE, Iowa, Oct. 14 — Howard Dean, who is increasingly giving his presidential candidacy an anti-Washington cast, cranked up his rhetoric on Tuesday, saying that if he won, members of Congress were "going to be scurrying for shelter, just like a giant flashlight on a bunch of cockroaches."

His jab at Capitol Hill, institutional home to four of Dr. Dean's five main rivals for the nomination, came in response to a question about how he would handle Congress and the entrenched Beltway bureaucracy. The questioner mentioned Republicans and Democrats alike, and Dr. Dean made no distinction.

The remark was one of dozens of sharp comments about "Washington politicians" that Dr. Dean, the former governor of Vermont, tossed out in a 15-hour, nine-city, 329-mile sprint across Iowa, as he intensified his effort to separate himself from the pack by claiming the "outsider" mantle.

Trotting out a new laugh line, he criticized his fellow Democrats as compromising on party principles, saying, "Harry Truman said if you run a Republican against a Republican, a Republican wins every time."

2. Dean is dividing the party for his own personal gain.
Very nice what he is doing to the party. Dean is doing all this because of his personal ambition to become the president of the United States.

Nice to step on the rest of the party just to reach your ambition, Dr.!

3. In case you hadn't noticed
It wasn't Dean's tactics that lost the Senate, Georgia for the first time in about a century, redistricting in Texas (which was designed to cost us 7 seats there in 2004), House seats, state legislatures and governor seats.

5. No...he hadn't noticed...
...and Dean isn't "dividing the party", unless you consider dividing the base and the disenfranchised from the entrenched DLC a real "boo-hoo" moment...

Whatever, I'm sick of the crap, the PNAC crew working both sides of the fence, the K Street types purchasing influence while average voters wonder who will speak to and for them...

4. Yeah! Just like
Kerry, Gephardt, Lieberman, DK, and anyone else attacking anyone. I wish they wouldn't attack each other but if Dean is attacked, it should NOT be called dividing the party. It should be called self-defense. Sharpton and Braun haven't done it but that may be because they are no where near the front. Clark is still on the honeymoon.

7. Exactly...Dean hasn't made it a habit of attacking anyone
He criticized the lousy votes, but wasn't singling anyone out for the most part. However, especially Kerry and Gephardt have been particularly nasty towards Dean, and Dean has every right to criticize them just as harshly as they do him. The difference is, Dean will criticize REAL things, not triped up nonsense and twisted partial quotes.

8. Dean disproves another cliche
"There's no such thing as bad publicity."
