Humphreys to Enter Senate Race
Kirk Humphreys, Repuke mayor of Oklahoma City, looks to be entering the Oklahoma U. S. Senate Race. The two men who had considered running in the primary have declined (Rep. Ernie Istook and For. Rep. J. C. Watts).

I think that if the race is Carson v. Humphreys, it will be very close, but we should definitely have a shot.

1. If Drew Edmondson runs, Humphreys will really have a fight...
He's won three statewide elections as a Democratic attorney general, is a Viet Nam vet, and comes from a major family in Oklahoma politics.

Carson can hold his congressional seat, but I'm not sure any other Dem can take it. Hope he runs for re-election and lets Edmondson make the race uncontested.

2. Are you from Oklahoma?
because my whole family hates Edmondson. Not only is he a crook, but we Dems are fed up with him! Our family isn't alone.

I totally disagree that Edmondson would be better than Carson. Carsons got smarts, and connections. He may be a moderate, but he's a damn sight better than Nickles.

Edmondson is a loser ( just like David Walters)

3. Absolutely not from Oklahoma...
and have formed my opinion almost totally from reading (which is not wise)...I did follow Ed Edmondson's two senate campaigns many years ago and I thought he was an intriguing candidate (how often do you get a lawyer/doctor combo?). I also followed Fred Harris's career and admired him greatly but I had a lot more to back up my support of Harris.

I'm really sorry to hear that the Edmondson is so bad because, on paper, he would appear to be a great candidate. How about the State Treasurer? Is he a possibility? Am I over rating the difficulty in holding Carson's seat? I'm really just glad Istook and Watts aren't running.

Seriously, no sarcasm intended, thank you Nancy. No one knows the politics of a state like a resident. Its okay for me to pontificate all I want, but, in reality, I don't know jack about real politics in Oklahoma.

I'd feel exactly the same way if you spoke as an expert on Mississippi.

Steve

4. The thing about Edmonson is
that he is a good old boy and wants to do the good old boy thing. As far as Carson's seat is concerned, a Democrat has always won District 2 except for that small blip when Dr. Corburn won. Do you remember Mike Synar. He was a great liberal and represented the district well. Carson is another of those Rhodes scholar types...if you get my drift.

Yes Fred Harris..another great liberal from Oklahoma. He's been living in New Mexico for ages now.

As with any place, a lot depends on the candidate. I think we could have beaten Infofe ( he's not really that popular) but what do the Dems do? They nominate David Walters, a failed disgraced ex-governor.

5. I really thought Walters might lose the primary...
What a wasted opportunity.
