Kucinich on "electability"
Edited on Sun Oct-05-03 03:06 PM by LWolf
http://www.islandpacket.com/news/local/story/2921772p-2684441c.html

<snip>

"We like what you have to say, but can you win," asked an audience member.

"This is an open field. Anyone can win, even me," Kucinich joked.

While the man who leads the Congressional Progressive Caucus admitted he might not be as well known as other candidates, he said he has a long history of defeating Republican incumbents.

He also has strong support from Ohio, a state with 20 electoral votes and which the Democrats lost in the 2000 presidential election.

13. If being the best candidate means a win...
how'd we end up in this mess in the first place? Not to mention the fact that not everyone believes he's the best candidate, you know.

20. One, electability didn't have a thing to do with the mess
we're in now. Bush lost and was appointed by the USSC. The best candidate DID WIN in 2000, and then he and we got robbed.

Now as to Kucinich's being the best or not, YES, hemost assuredly IS.

Look, I'm not a Socialist, although I'm not too awful far to the right of them, but most of Kucinich's proposals just make sense on a pure logic level.

How much money do we lose to Pentagon waste? Welfare fraud? The drug war? Death Penalty appeals? Tax cuts for the top 3% of the wealthy?

People are so worried that he'll cost us more than he'll save, but each and every one of his policies will put an almost instant stop to pointless expenditures! Universal Healthcare, no change in what we currently pay, merely a shifting of the burden to a more balanced and reasonable system with FAR less waste. Living wages, there's the end of welfare fraud as we know it because there won't be any need for a welfare program between the living wage and Universal Healthcare. Dept. of Peace, instant decimation of Pentagon spending under the table, waste and maltreatment of soldiers and Veterans, PLUS an absolute assurance that a repeat of Viet Nam or Iraq will not happen!

Put those three things together, and already you've drastically improved the conditions of most American Citizens, and decreased wasteful spending of taxpayer money. Now what makes him less than the best with those three policies?

15. Here you are again!
Another helpful statement from you. As I said before, you are not helping Dean with these comments. It seems you have picked out every thread that has DK in it and made a cute little comment on each. Really, do you have nothing else to do? Why don't you use this time to work for Dean instead of making an ass of yourself?

17. You are being alerted.
I do not know if you are a disrupter or just immature but I will be the second one to alert your name. If you want to remain on this board you might want to be productive or at least curb your desire to make stupid comments. I will not respond to you again.

Kucinich is a laughingstock and so would the Democratic Party be if he were nominated - AS IF that's possible.

25. Some of us try to remember to take a deep breath.
Even if we get peeved. You're a good person, Padraig, and don't worry about being lumped in with the likes of this creature.

It occurs to me, both Dean and Kucinich supporters are getting so conditioned to expect this kind of post from each other that it's getting ugly.*sigh* I do NOT like Dean, and this "weepy and liberal" remark just cinched it for me. He showed ME PERSONALLY a total lack of respect with that, and so he lost any hope of getting respect FROM me.

That's my take, and it has nothing whatsoever to do with YOUR decisions about who to support or not support, no bearing on YOUR choices about how to cast your vote. I won't be silent about my newly established anger and disgust, but it lies squarely at the feet of Howard Dean and NOT his supporters. I hope you'll bear that in mind in any future encounters because it isn't directed at you or any other Dean supporter, but directly at Howard Dean himself.

23. "You call the 'Department of Peace' substance?"
Yes, I do. What's your answer? 40,000 more American soldiers at risk for G-d knows how long?

Sorry, MY husband isn't expendable for Halliburton and Co.(rec'd word they will likely be sent over as rotation time rolls around. National Guard being sent to war fer feck's sake!:grr: :nuke: )

The Dept. of Peace is indeed substance. Have you read the bill? If not you can't very well claim one way or the other can you.

If so then debate, otherwise go piss up a rope.
