3. What A Rip Off
January 2003: West Coast Kiteboarding assisted with a photo shoot for Vogue magazine. Photographer Annie Liebowitz was photographing presidential candidate (and kitesurfer) Senator John Kerry for an article in the magazine. Senator Kerry handled the powerhouse 19.5 Gaastra GXR like a pro.

Not John Kerry!

---

Nantucket Times: You’re avid about personally challenging sports like kite boarding, in-line roller-skating and airplane piloting. What are the metaphors there? What does that tell us about your potential Presidency?

John Kerry: I don’t think you should read anything in to it. Throughout my life I’ve been lucky enough to be introduced to certain kinds of activities from which I derive a great deal of pleasure, almost a form of meditation in some ways.

Some people choose to run. I used to run a lot, but I’m trying to save my creaky old bones so I can go out and do the things I love to do. I bike a lot now. And I’ve always been on the water; it’s always been a passion of mine. So the windsurfing, the sailing, the kite boarding, to me they’re just fun.

6. LMAO
Stop! You're killing me! If the kiteboard went across the screen, I'd be dead now.

5. Trying to appeal to the young voters?
I know a guy from Maryland who said they were kiteboarding out there years before it became an 'extreme sport' so I'm willing to give Kerry the benefit of the doubt here. It won't hurt with the youth vote, but I don't think it is a crass political stunt to gain their attention.

7. John Kerry - X-treme POTUS
Actually, Kerry's been doing the Dew since Vietnam when he would go surfing (unlike Charlie) and arrange chicken fights between the PT boats. He's an avid stunt pilot, windsurfer, snowboarder, motorcycle freak (just switched from "crotch rockets" - his term - to Harleys), hockey player, and on and on. The guy seems stiff on the Senate floor, but he's a nutball during the off-season.

He also dated the Old Navy chick back when she was a looker.

That's looker with an L.
