Volunteer for the CA Democratic Convention
I'm posting the following letter from Art Torres. We are expecting ALL NINE of the Democratic Presidential contenders. If things work the way they did last you, all you have to do is volunteer for 8 hours and then they will let you into the General Session.

Here's the e-mail:

Dear Democratic Friend,

The California Democratic Party needs you! Our 2004 State Convention will be held January 16-18th (Friday - Sunday) at the San Jose Convention Center, and we will need as many volunteers as possible.

We anticipate U.S. Senators, our Statewide Officials, many of our California Congressional members, and State Senate and State Assembly representatives. In addition, we expect many of our national Democratic leaders to join us for the weekend.

Our dedicated volunteers are essential to our successful conventions, and this year will be no exception. We will need over 600 volunteers to facilitate a productive and enjoyable convention for the approximately 3,500 delegates, guests and press in attendance.

Volunteers are needed in several areas (please see the volunteer form). Some assignments will require sitting, while others may involve standing. With the volume of volunteers that we will need, we cannot guarantee placing you in an area of your first choice; however, we will make every effort to do so. Please let us know of any special needs or physical limitations you may have. There will be opportunities for volunteers to attend General Session, and watch history as it happens!

If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the volunteer form at www.ca-dem.org/volunteer by January 2, 2004. If you have any questions, please contact the volunteer coordinator at (916) 442-5707 or email at [email protected]. If you have already registered to volunteer, please forward this message to anyone else you may feel would be interested, and thank you for volunteering.

Please note: there will be no on-site volunteer registration. All volunteers must register in advance.

I'll see you at the convention!

Sincerely,

SENATOR ART TORRES (Ret.)
Chairman, California Democratic Party

PS: Please feel free to forward this email to your family members and friends who may also be interested in volunteering.

4. Alright, Amerikav60!
I don't know whether you've attended one of the conventions, but they are a blast! Especially in presidential election years. Everywhere you look, pols. Everywhere. From State Senators/Assemblymembers to Congresscritters, Senators (pretty much guaranteed Feinsein, Boxer & Pelosi will be there), to presidential candidate contenders. Ex-presidents and vice presidents have been known to make an appearance or two -- we never know until the actual convention -- but you'll hear the scuttlebutt as to who, will be there during the convention.

As for the presidential primary candidates, my guess is that they'll probably be there Saturday for the General Session, then back to Iowa as the caucuses are the following Monday.

We're staying not far from the convention and will probably try to arrange a hospitality get-together.

Oh, and spread the word. We need more volunteers!
