January 31 Convergence, protest Bush SOTU speech. --Anyone going?
January 31 Convergences

Jan. 31, on The Night of President Bush’s State of the Union Address:
Bring the Noise! Drown Out Bush’s Lies!
In large cities and small towns all across the country, join in rallies one hour before Bush’s address as we make our determination to “Drive Out the Bush Regime” the political message of the day.
At 9:00 PM EST, just as Bush starts to speak, everywhere we will BRING THE NOISE. In a cacophony of sound, we will drown out his address with music: from drums to violins, from hip hop and classical; and with noise: banging pots and ringing church bells, sound car horns and lifting our voices.

2. Yep.
Make as big a scene as we can.

MSM can go fuck themselves. If millions take to the streets, we can't be ignored. Or maybe we can. I'm going anyway.

4. DC could be DUable :)
(Based on the large DU turnout for the DC peace rally!)

DC:
Washington DC: In DC, we will gather as close as we can to the scene of the impending lies:

We will be on the west side of the Capitol, around and in front of the reflecting pool. The Press will be parked along 3rd Street and along the South Side of the Capitol (Independence). Cindy Sheehan and Ann Wright will speak to us (and them) at 8 pm; they will be followed by other speakers (the Rev. Yearwood and Doug Nelson, an Iraq War vet) and then at 9, the main event will begin:

Picture a marching band/brass ensemble, a drum circle, a choir, tap dancers, a rock ensemble, hip-hop poetry, other spoken word, hootenany, African, Asian, Irish glorious soaring rhythmic, each beginning and doing a few minutes in sequence, followed by overlapping moments, followed by at least 30 minutes of jazz-like improv, call and response, followed by one fully stunning long-held harmonious wall of sound that rises to the heavens.

The whole main event lasts 50 minutes, from 9-9:50. It’s possible the media might be roused from their hypnotic stance to report on it.

If you are interested in either helping with logistics or performing, or can help us get great performers, please email Karen Bradley at [email protected] or call 202-669-3927.

World Can't Wait Los Angeles Update
Submitted by davidswanson on Sat, 2006-01-07 14:21. Activism | Organizing Locally
We need your help to get ready for the State of The Union Address Protest on January 31st. We will bring out the noise and demand Bush step down. We have flyers available at the office and soon available for download. There are weekly meetings on Sundays at 1 PM at the Peace Center. Also, World Can't Wait is participating with the After Downing Street Coalition, Progressive Democrats of America and other organizations in public meetings Saturday, January 7, on the topic of ending the war!

The Los Angeles WCW meeting is every Sunday, 1 pm at the Peace Center, 8124 W. 3rd Street, west of Cahuenga (between Fairfax & La Cienaga); enter/park in back alley - look for 2-story gray building. Come brainstorm about plans for major protest on the evening of Bush's State of the Union Address, Jan. 31st, 5 pm at Hollywood and Highland; and be ready to brainstorm about how to fundraise! We need your ideas and participation!

19. We'll be there on the 4th too ...
...that's me and pat_k.

In the evening we'll be going to "the usual place," should anyone want to do the IRL thing:

Unless of course something else pops up.

Should you want to meet/do earlier, just send a PM with cellphone# or "instructions."

11. Can't do D.C. - Can do Santa Fe.
At last some fine person organized a rally in Santa Fe (6PM - corner of St Francis Dr and Cerrillos Rd).

Are people aware that there will be concurrent rallies nationwide, not just D.C.? Check the world can't wait site for the location nearest you. Just asking because I can't understand DU's tepid (at best) response to this call for action.

13. Bush Administration Seeks to Squelch S.O.T.U. Protest at Capitol
January Monday 23rd 2006 (23h42) :
Bush Administration Seeks to Squelch State of the Union Protest at Capitol on January 31

The Bush administration has expanded the special security zone around the Capitol, effectively denying a meaningful public space for a protest called by World Can’t Wait-Drive Out the Bush Regime during the State of the Union address on January 31, 2006. This action, one of many held simultaneously that night at 8pm EST in cities and towns across the country, calls for symbolically “drowning out Bush’s lies” and demands “BUSH STEP DOWN.”

At a meeting on January 10 with the National Park Service Police, Capitol Police, and National Parks Department, the World Can’t Wait was offered the area surrounding the Capitol Reflecting Pool for the January 31st gathering. This was accepted by World Can’t Wait. However, on January 19, the organization received word that this area had been reclassified as part of a “secure perimeter” for that day.

In addition, the grass areas of the National Mall have been closed for “turf renovation” up to 7th Street. Thus, the proposed demonstration area is restricted to the “gravel and concrete walkways of the national Mall between 3rd and 4th Streets.”

16. Protest Bush on Jan 31st in Minneapolis
Minneapolis, MN - January 31st, 2006 - At 7:30 p.m. a protest of the
Bush administration organized by a group called World Can't Wait in
conjunction with the local organization Beingism.org will gather at
the Minneapolis Federal Building (at 3rd Ave. and 4th St.) to drown
out Bush's State of the Union address. World Can't Wait encourages
concerned citizens to attend. "The Bush regime is setting out to
radically remake society very quickly, in a fascist way, and for
generations to come. We must act now; the future is in the balance.
Millions and millions are deeply disturbed and outraged by this. They
recognize the need for a vehicle to express this outrage, yet they
cannot find it; politics as usual cannot meet the enormity of the
challenge, and people sense this," stated a World Can't Wait
organizer. Beingism.org is encouraging people to bring signs as well
as percussive instruments and other noisemakers to the event. For
information and updates, go to http://Beingism.org or worldcantwait.org.
