1. Once upon a time...

My wife and I were going through a tough time many years ago. My dad sent me an e-mail (we lived in Okinawa at the time) and it said:

Just know, it's easy to find many reasons to separate from someone. It's much harder to find just one reason to stay together, but that one reason will always be more powerful than a million piddly reasons to break up.

Seems kinda corny now, especially since my wife and I have such a wonderful marriage now, but at the time, it really stuck in my head.

2. My Da didn't like my ex-wife at all...

...and almost didn't come to my wedding. So I can't begin to sympathize. However the wisdom is still valid and I think adding,listen to yer folks, helps too.

3. My Dad said "Don't join the navy. You hate taking

orders from me - what makes you thing you'll like taking orders from a stranger?" Made me stop and think and decode to go back to college instead of joining the navy. Thank God I listened.
