They Keep Saying A Blackout Can't Happen Here in Colorado....
... because we're on a different grid. I'm wondering when we're gonna lose power today - before or after lunch.

1. A few years ago there were blackouts daily in Denver
too many air conditioners being used. Man, it sucked.

3. and the worst part is
you don't even need AC in Denver. I've never owned one. Last night it was in the 50's and I could still hear people's AC kicking on all night.

5. We Get Blackouts All The Time In Pueblo West
Pueblo West is a planned community. All utility lines within Pueblo West are underground, but the power lines that feed them are above-ground. We've had lightning strikes, high winds, and car accidents cause blackouts that last from a few minutes to several hours.

The worst one was a few years ago, when the power went out on a Sunday afternoon. I called the power company to report the problem; when we still had no power a few hours later, I called again. it turned out that a fuse had blown at a switching station, and they didn't have a spare - they were getting one from their maintenance shop in KANSAS!!!!!! (over 100 miles away).

4. we get our own blackouts
as you probably know

either from weather (snow or ice knocking down lines) or from excessive use especially during hot weather.

we supposedly can't come down as part of a regional cascade, but I don't know. We didn't lose power during the big Western outages, but there was concern.

6. That same pitch is being used in Texas
Sure it can't happen, until something goes wrong with YOUR grid. The power companies seem to want to use local media as corporate spokespersons.

8. It May Be True in Texas
If I remember correctly, the grid within Texas is separate and non-compatible with the Western Grid. At least that was the excuse they gave for why they could not send power to California when the energy companies were holding Gray Davis' nuts over the fire......
