"Boston" by Boston
Edited on Sun Jul-10-11 04:05 PM by Taverner

Could there be a better album, technically?

I mean, you've got engineer Tom Scholtz who orchestrated this paean to Suburban AOR Rock. He puts together a band of the best players out of Boston, from a technical perspective. He writes these melodies that don't just get stuck in your head - but burn themselves indelibly into your thought patterns for the next 10+ years. Then he comes up with a cover that manages to combine Sci Fi, Rock and Roll, Malthus and FIRE!!!

Every single song on this album, you already know. The solos are just as memorable as the motifs in the melody.

Can I find a bad song on this album? Rock & Roll Band is about as close as this album gets to a bad song. And even that song is awesome.

Sure, Tom Scholtz and co never equalled this album. And yes, these guys went on to inspire Stryper of all bands.

But I remember a time, when Boston WAS rock and roll. They hit all the notes. I remember many a mix tape that would sequence More then a Feeling right before or after LZ's Stairway to Heaven.

1. I love BOSTON. (And I listened to Stryper back in the day.) I just love that
sweet, melodic rock. Does it have an official genre name? I've never figured it out.

2. Well Boston went on to influence Glam Metal
But there were a lot of bad glam metal bands

There were a lot of bad glam bands

I don't know

One thinks of metal bands that were also melodic, and I think Rush, Triumph, Living Color, Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam

7. He was a sweet man
Actually left a note for the firefighters that he used gas so they wouldn't blow themselves up going into his home.
