She did the equivalent of a kitty-growl and ran with it. She's not wanting to give it up. Can she get a disease if she eats it? My outdoor cats seem to be fine when they kill one outdoors.

1. Cats can get worms from eating wild prey, so
you might want to have her checked for worms at some point. But I'm pretty impressed that such a tiny kitty is already able to hunt.

2. That seems pretty young.
On the other hand, she will probably make a great mouser.

I guess I'd keep an eye on her, just in case...

:hi: my dear Cannikin!

3. She's a fast learner!
She was just weaned and can already get her own solid food. Good girl.

Not what you wanted to hear but that sounds like quite an achievement.

5. I'm fine with it as long as it doesn't compromise her health. I was surprised
when I flipped the kitchen light on and saw her with it. I've never seen a mouse inside.

17. You should name her Diana.
Roman goddess of the hunt. :)

7. Did mama maybe catch it and give it to her?
I've seen that happen before, but I have never seen a kitten that young catch a mouse. Wow.

In truth, I'd be reluctant to let her keep it and eat it simply because she's not gonna eat that whole thing and the leftovers are gonna be NASTY indeed.

:puke:

8. That's very possible. She wasn't far away. I finally got it away from her and tossed it out.

11. That is one of the ways they learn to be hunters.
Mom cat brings them "treats" that she has caught. Sometimes they are not completely dead and hilarity ensues...

We all tend to forget sometimes that the "Puddle O Cat" sprawled on the floor in our living room really is an almost perfectly designed killer. I tell my husband sometimes that the only things saving us is that we outweigh the cat by a fair amount, and we have opposable thumbs. My husband is convinced that the opposable thumbs thing is a false sense of security.

14. That's one of the things I love about them. They're just BARELY domesticated..
I love it when they snap into tiger mode.

12. I have no idea! I'd never seen one in here before. I have an outside cat that usually
keeps them from getting that close!

13. Why do you want it? Are you hungry?
I think her mama is teaching her to hunt. That is good.

Just be sure to have her wormed. Actually, if she is six weeks old, she may not even be old enough to be wormed. I can't remember exactly how old they should be when they start getting their shots and being wormed.

Also, make sure you find the mouse right away. If it dies somewhere, the smell will drive you out. My cat likes to play with her prey, and loses interest if it crawls under some piece of furniture. I know from sad, smelly experience that it is best to find these things quickly.

15. I was just trying to keep them from gutting it on the carpet. My brute of a dog
eventually took it away, then I got it from him and through it outside...where it met a quick death from my outdoor cat.
