4. Married With Children did the same thing with that little kid "Seven"
Annoying, empty characters are bad, especially when they're children.

11. So did a lot of others.
"Family Ties" and "The Cosby Show" (Lisa Bonet's character's stepdaughter) come to mind. And, that awful 1990s sitcom with Kirk Cameron and Alan Thicke whose name I have mercifully blocked from my memory. I guess at that time, when they ran out of ideas, they threw a "cute" kid into the mix. It amazed me how they went from babies to smart-alec five-year-olds in the matter of a season or two.

2. Season three of Millennium
Season two started introducing more overtly supernatural elements, hinting at a good old, genuine, biblical, good v. evil apocalypse.

The end of the first season only hinted at this with ""Powers, Principalities, Thrones and Dominions", a truly great episode.

Unfortunately, Chris Carter took over the third season from Morgan & Wong and steered it back to a CSI-like killer of the week format.

18. When that show was on the air,
I preferred it to X-Files, even though I watched that, too. Millennium was just so much better! I don't think I saw the last few episodes, though. For some reason, when shows start failing in their ratings, stations begin fucking with their schedules even more, so I missed a fair amount of the third season.

23. Is that why Millennium went bad? I thought it was because FOX
demanded that Millennium be reformatted to resemble the X-Files, complete with a female Scully to Frank Black's Mulder.

But if it was really Chris Carter and his big ol' bong, that explains a lot.

If the Simpsons were a brand new show, starting from its current season, it would be cancelled after 3 episodes.

12. The TVLand network when they premiered "Chasing Farah" ...
it was a realty show all about Farah Fawcett, before she became ill of course. They had, I think, the VP of programming on the first episode and he says that doing a show about Farah is "the Holy Grail of reality television."

Thank God I didn't have a brick handy. After that, the whole channel has gone to shit.

32. I remember it too. Loved it!
I don't agree that the second season was a shark jump. It was very different from the first, but both seasons had their virtues. The only thing that really bugged me was that they never explained what happened to Victor between season 1 and season 2 - and while they did tell us what happened in one of the novelizations, it was so anticlimatic that it virtually cried out for a fanfic correction.

22. Oh come on, you can't have a list like that and not include MASH
The show started to jump the shark when Larry Linville (aka Frank Burns) left the show and completed the jump when Gary Burrough (Radar) left. I mean that middle section there were a few standout episodes but I couldn't stand MASH after RADAR was gone - just too preachy and not enough laughter.

That's sort of when I knew it was going south. Hair care changes tend to augur in fins and wet suits.

25. That kinda happened in the time range that I mentioned
Frank Burns left end of season #5
Radar left beginning of season #8 (although he wasn't featured as much in season #7)
BJ grew the mustache beginning of season #7.

To be honest, I do think the first year with Winchester was decent (season #6) It was kinda neat to see Hawkeye and BJ having to go up against someone who was 'superior' to them instead of dealing with 'inferior' Frank. I think that year they were just warming up the motorcycle finding a shark to put in the poll.

30. I dunno.. I kinda liked having Roseanne win the lottery.
Granted, many of the subsequent episodes were pretty damn stupid. In fact, I hated the actual ending, when it turned out it was all a novel, and her life sucked even worse than originally portrayed. I really wanted that family to have a better life than what they did in all the previous seasons.

34. I hated the last season of Roseanne because it turned the entire show into a lie.
When she talked about her novel, she said she not only made up a lot of stuff, she also changed things. She switched the husbands of her daughters because she thought they made more sense that way. She said Jackie was really a lesbian but she changed her entirely. What was the point of watching all those years of the show if it was all made up. (Yes, theses stories are fiction anyway, but that was ridiculous.)

Edited on Sat Jun-04-11 09:17 AM by BlueIris
For some odd reason, though, I actually wanted them to hook up...couldn't see why it wouldn't work. I still contend it might have, if it hadn't been for the way the writers decided to handle Jane Leeves' pregnancy (the 'fat' farm.) Awful. That got things off on the worst foot imaginable and totally sucked all the potential funny out of the relationship plotline.

Thought it was kooky but enjoyable and entertaining. I wouldn't have written it that way, but I didn't think it was awful.

Ed. note: Roseanne is my fave show of all-time.
