When I want to cross the street (ESPECIALLY where there's no crosswalk)
and I'm waiting for that ONE car to pass so that I can get across before the
LINES of cars approaching from both directions get there and the driver
of the car decides to "be nice" and slow down or stop for me to cross.
.
I've learned from experience that, after hesitating and HOPING that they'll
just drive past, the MOMENT I step into the street will unerringly be the
MOMENT they decide that they really shouldn't have stopped in the first
place -- so we BOTH stop and the dance continues until the lines of cars
make it impossible for me to cross.
.
This even happens when I try to wave them on past (with increasingly
urgent "waves").
.
.
I know they THINK they're "just being nice", but I always think "control freak"
when it gets that bad (and no, it's not ME being one -- they're got 2 or 3
thousand pounds on me).
.
.
Passive-aggressive might be a better term (see below).
