If you could see any band do a live performance of one of their albums from start to finish...
which band/album would you pick.

I've now seen Roger Waters do "Dark Side of the Moon" and "The Wall". Made me think how I'd like to see Radiohead do "Ok Computer" or David Bowie do "Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars" or Green Day do "American Idiot".

What album would you like to see live in concert from the band/singer who created it.

1. So many to choose from
but, I'm not sure if you mean anybody - like seeing The Beatles perform The White Album or Sgt. Pepper's in their prime?

Or, do you mean seeing 55 or so year old David Lee Roth & Eddie Van Halen performing Runnin' with the Devil & the like from Van Halen's first album (still living, but way past their primes)?

2. CSNY, Deja Vu.
That was the first one to come to mind, primarily because of "Country Girl"...I have my doubts that they could pull that one off live, but if they could, THAT would be the performance to see.

AAGGHHHHH!!!

Okay, I'll admit Phish is clever, but that just sounds too much like Debbie Gibson doing the Beatles again. Not doing as in... Well, you know what I mean.

50. Actually it was fantastic.
One of the best music nights of my life.(and I have been rocking since the 60's, including seeing the Mick Taylor Stones 3 times) "Just wanna see his face" was incredible.Lovin Cup, well Phish has always slayed that song.

Actually kind of the exact opposite of the Debbie G analogy. It was the best band playing today, playing the best band of yesterday's best album. Phish brought the heat. And respected the material. And blew it the fuck up. I'll see if I can find the video and post it for ya. Mind blowing.

This year they did a great job with Little Feat's Waiting For Columbus. They have done Quadrophenia, DSOTM, and many others as their musical costume for Halloween..

77. Agreed,London Calling equally with Give 'Em Enough Rope
Just mentioned that one because London Calling gets so much more praise, when ,in my opinion, Give 'Em Enough Rope is about as good, just half as much music obviously. But yeah, if I could only have one Clash album it'd be London Calling, which I consider to be among the top 5 or so albums ever made.
Simlarly, picked The Wild The Innocent and The E Street Shuffle for similar reasons ....everyone (among those who appreciate the brilliance of Bruce and the E Street Band) usually thinks of Born to Run or Born in The USA as his greatest, and in the case of BTR, they may be right, but in its own not yet focused , loose way, The E Street Shuffle, because of its very looseness provides the band room to really stretch out and strut its stuff in ways the the more tightly put together later albums didn't. And it's a brilliant album on its own terms and deserves more respect than it sometimes gets.
And hats off to your friend for learning and performing all of London Calling. I'm duly (and then some) impressed.

I've already gotten to see Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, 2112, Moving Pictures.

Would love to see Animals - other than Waters' last tour, that did Sheep, I've never heard any of that album live, and it's one my all-time most favorite albums.

Especially if they did it like they did in the 70s, with lots of extra solos and noise.

And hearing a live performance of Ambient IV: On Land would be pretty insane.

29. I have seen albums performed in their entirety- I am very lucky
I saw the Dead do "American Beauty" the whole thing all the way through.Plus about another hours worth of material.

Jethro Tull - Thick as Brick. one of the best concerts of all time

I saw the Eagles do "On the Border" and "Desperado" at the times

CSNY Deja Vu when they first released it

Led Zepplin do Led Zepplin 1 because that was their show, man. Pasadena Rose Palace, 1968
Recently, I saw Los Lobos do "KIKO" at House of Blues . I think that may have been a one off.

Saw the Rolling Stones to "Get Yer Ya Yas Off" because that was their show that round

I'd do/give anything to see the Beatles do "Abbey Road"
Same with Nirvana , "Nevermind"

In both cases, they did the entire tour (album) with full costumes and props. They're the only band that has official approval from all current and former members of Genesis. They've even gotten assistance from the band with the props, costumes, and even how to move the way Gabriel did. Damn good concerts!

I think it was the "Selling England" tour. At the other one, there was a "Freebird" moment. When they announced they were going to do an encore, it was really quiet and someone yelled out "Supper's Ready". The whole damn place lost it.

43. I was floored for about 80-85% of it and I felt in the end he kinda phoned it in.
I realize that the last section of "The Wall" is something near impossible to play without full orchestration and a chorale group to boot. (That's the trial section). Queen had the same problem with "Bohemian Rhapsody" - The song had this amazing operatic section in the middle that made it impossible to play on tour so Queen would just show a video tape of the middle section.

Realizing that Waters would have to do something similiar with the last section of "The Wall", I was very disappointed. Essentially he stood on stage and pretty much lip sync'd to the last couple of songs while they played "The Wall" move on the giant wall with a few minor updates for 2010. I was very disappointed with that section mainly because he had opportunities to really bring that section to life. I loved some of the earlier puppets and think making one of the judge or bringing back the mother and teacher would have enhanced that final section. We're all fans and most of us have seen "The Wall" at least once on Video/DVD. So I was a bit disappointed with that section.

But like I said - 80-85% of that concert just blew me away. Outside of Herseypark, July 1988 Robert Plant's "In the Mood" when I got to hold his outstretched hand as he sung, "Comfortably Numb" has got to have been the great live performance experience I ever witnessed. That song alone pretty much made up for the ending.

Where did you see the concert? Were you at Wells Fargo on Thursday?

I was also upset I didn't get the flowers t-shirt before the concert started. I loved that t-shirt and by the time I bought a shirt the largest size available was a small and that was way too small for me

44. Saw it Saturday at Bank Atlantic Center in Fort Lauderdale.
I agree The Trial was a little weak -- just the cartoon from The Wall, essentially. But that's a nitpick in light of the rest of the concert. I agree about the puppets -- I was actually expecting to see all three come back during The Trial and was surprised when they didn't.

I got the red, crossed hammers T-shirt with "Trust Us" below the logo. Love it! Wore it to work on Monday.

So many highlights ... I even got a kick out of the guy pushing the shopping cart before the show.

51. I loved that Eisenhower quote - we should be screaming that today!!
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed." --Dwight D. Eisenhower

Dwight may have been a Republican but that was back then when Republicans cared a bit more about social issues.

53. Yeah. You wanna know how much the GOP has changed since then?
Here's another Eisenhower quote, though this one's from a private letter:

"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes that you can do these things. Among them are a few Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or businessman from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid."

And now, the views espoused by those few Texas oil millionaires and occasional politicians and businessmen are the mainstream views of the GOP.

Shoot, I'd just be happy if they toured in the USA.

63. wow. Talking Heads, any perhaps (or Phish doing one of their albums.)
Edited on Wed Nov-17-10 08:27 AM by tigereye
Brian Eno. Patti Smith. Roseanne Cash. Hard to simply pick one.

On edit, I have read that Phish used to do whole albums of other artists as a tribute - that might be even better to see!

82. Well, since I got to see Love's Forever Changes before Arthur Lee passed away, here's my top 5 list.
1. Pink Floyd - Piper at the Gates of Dawn: I really wish I could have seen Syd Barrett live; what a trip that would be!

2. Nick Drake - Pink Moon: I really wish I could see Nick Drake PERIOD. Other than home movies of his childhood, no footage of him performing his beautiful music exists.

3. The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band: Debated for a while between this and The White Album, but Pepper would be the superior visual treat as a concert.

4. Elliott Smith - Elliott Smith: Just a personal favorite I would bliss out to.

5. Traveling Wilburys - Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1: I mean, c'mon, the Traveling Wilburys never toured? Can you imagine how great that might have been? George did:

After his 1990 tour of Japan, George spoke of a Traveling Wilburys tour, "That would be something I'd like to experience. I've always played around in my own mind what a Wilburys tour could be. Would each person do a solo set and then do Wilburys at the end, or would we all go right on from beginning to end and make everything Wilburys? It's an intriguing thought. We could have a great band up there and the four of us could play acoustic if we wanted to. We could all sing "Blowin' In The Wind" and Bob could sing "Something". Or we could just sing our individual songs and make them Wilbury tunes, as if we'd recorded them that way. Whatever it was, we could do it." The Wilburys tour never came about.
