We need a 1TB external drive that can be portable & RELIABLE. Suggestions?
Husband is a VJ and DJ and we are PC based.(I know, I know!)We had a 1TB HP Simple Save that went down on us after only a year. We need a new TB drive for him to take from gig to gig. It gets plugged in to either his HP laptop or the club's computer. Need something that can take the wear & tear. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!
and mirror them. Any single drive is as prone to failure as any other single drive. Constantly spinning them up and down is more wear and tear. Mirroring content on 2 drives will save you money and data in the long run. And always replace a failed drive to rebuild the mirror ASAP, not when convenient.
3. Seagate - no contest. Under $100, fast, and reliable.
I've got six 1TB's on my main server and ten or so 500-800GB externals on various other machines. I've never had a problem with them. Western Digital is a good choice for internal drives, but their external drives seem to be prone to fucking up. I don't think it is the drive itself, but rather the hardware that provides the USB interface. I really don't bother with any other brands anymore.
