Is there a good way to clean bricks?
I have a narrow brick walkway in our backyard and am thinking about expanding it out into a brick patio. But I would want to clean the current bricks first. I've heard of some chemial you can use that cleans bricks but don't know what it is. Any recommendations?

1. I'd rent a power washer.
No chemicals needed. Just blast the gunk to kingdom come! :-)

5. Careful!
depends on what kind of bricks. If they're old.... like the ones in my 150+ year-old house... blasting will disintegrate them... and possibly the mortar too. And that's MURIATIC, not muric acid.

is probably what you heard.

Flowamo is right, it's muratic acid. And it is nasty.

4. Muric acid is nasty stuff
I have a brick walk and patio. Got myself a power washer and it does work though it is very time consuming and messy. After a couple years I just let the bricks age.

Since you want to make them look newish I'd go with the power wash.

6. I think it's "muriatic" acid and its fumes can knock you out - be careful

8. Klenztone Stone & Brick Cleaner
It contains flouride salts, which some people are allergic to, so they advise you to wear rubber gloves when you use it. But it's not real harsh, it does a good job, and it won't harm the bricks.

9. Try this -

  • Dig up the bricks.

  • Put them in your vehicle.

  • Drive to your local republican HQ.

  • Throw them through the windows.

  • Wait to be arrested.

  • Go to jail for a few hours of fun processing.

  • Get bailed out.

  • Wait for trial.

  • After the trial, get your bricks back, clean and washed!
