Home improvement company has been a no-show twice just for the estimate phase.
WELL known US brand. Well, it USED to be. They used to have a huge building in Chicago named after them...

Should I give them one more chance to show up? I am thinking no, since if they can't even show up to sell it, they can't show up to do the work, either.

Am I too hasty here?

1. I would not have given them a second chance.
Call someone else.

:hi:

2. "We'll be by sometime between 8 and 2"
I manned the place from 7 to 3

At 4:30 they left a phone message: "Nobody was home when we came by for your appointment. Please call XXX-XXXX to reschedule"

Nope. I found somebody else

3. Dump 'em
Home improvement companies are supposed to be starving for business these days. If they can't be bothered to show up, skip 'em. There are plenty more out there.

4. Got a phone call the other day from a house painting outfit
that I'd contacted *two years ago* to request an estimate. I never heard a word back from them until now. So they wanted to know if they could come out and look at the place and give me an estimate for the job. After two years. I said I really didn't need them any more.

5. check Angie's list
local to your area, reviews by the customers, if you can't get any friends to refer you to someone reputable, try these guys.

6. Well, that should tell you a lot right there - get someone else - they should be
hurting for work right now.

7. I'm thinking that you know the answer.
Why would you want to risk hiring those contractors if they can't even show up to estimate?

8. Don't be a doormat. No second chances. Find someone dependable,
who actually cares about their customers. Local self-employed contractors usually are better at caring what their reputations are. Over the years, I have had way too many of these no-shows, and it pisses me off royally. My time is valuable to me, even if I can spend (waste) time on DU for hours.

10. We had a similar issue with them...
We contracted them to do work on our roof. The company gouged the heck out of our sidewalks. Deep grooves where they dragged stuff across it. Then denied responsibility. Sent out a 'supervisor' who said in her professional opinion those grooves were always there, despite the fact that there was no dirt or anything else in them.

We'd never use them again.
