DC police arrested a suspect in the hit & run killing of a cyclist
I posted about this yesterday. I saw the dead man on the road under the yellow tarp. I just heard on the local news that they arrested someone they suspect in the cyclist's death. He was hit by a dump truck that just kept on going.

The man who was killed was 53 years old and was riding his bike to work at the naval research lab.

Of all the ways there are to die, I can't imagine, short of murder, a more cold-blooded way to meet my death.

1. Argh! How cowardly to run from your crime like that.
Whoever is guilty needs a serious jail term.

5. Running from a crime?
Hitting a bicyclist isn't neccessarily a crime. For all we know, the bike-rider was at fault.

Running from the scene of an accident, though, is most definitely pure-frigging-evil.

7. Hit and run needs to be treated even more seriously than
drunk driving. Those who are guilty (even when people aren't injured)should automatically have their licenses revoked.

8. I struck and killed a pedestrian, 7 years ago
It wasn't my fault. There were several witnesses, including a cop.

My first thought was, seriously, "Mexico! Mexico and FREEDOM!"

I drove one or two hundred feet past the point of where I should have stopped, because I was still thinking "this isn't happening, this is just a dream."

I did stop, although, due to the extent of his injuries, I did not attempt first aid, either. Limbs weren't pointing in the right direction.

Of course i feel bad for the bicylclist, but I also feel bad for the dump truck driver. His reaction, in my experience, was perfectly natural. In all likelihhod, his reaction was not a fault of immorality, but of pure cowardice -- an emotion that most of us have felt at one time or another.
