They still *cough* allow smoking indoors *wheeze* in Texas
I just had dinner in a little truck stop out in rural Texas and almost everybody in the joint was smoking. First time I've run across that in a while. Makes me glad I quit.

I was at a receiver for almost 11 hours today waiting for them to unload about 1/3 of the freight on my trailer. Guess who? It was at a Walmart distribution center. I didn't know I was going there until the shit was already on my truck. I'm going to do what I can to keep from going there again. I should be in Dallas right now, but those fuckers held me so long the people at my second stop in Houston went home before I could get there. Ah, well, that's what trucking is like sometimes.

1. I stopped at a truck stop in MS and thought I was going to die of ptomaine just stepping inside
It was in McComb, Mississippi and it was the dirtiest, nastiest place I have seen in decades. There was plenty of smoking going on, but that was the least of my worries. I hope for your sake there aren't too many more like that one.

2. My dear Tobin!
Ah, rolling with the punches! I hope you won't find too many places where you'll have to breathe second-hand smoke...

Thanks for checking in!

3. I feel your pain. I live in a tobacco-growing state and we lag behind in banning smoking. nt

4. As a smoker
I like the non-smoking ban we have in CT. It doesn't bother me.

5. gag! I hate being anywhere close to a smoking section
in a restaurant.

Times like that I was always glad for my bar fridge in the sleeper! Do you have room for one? Maybe stock up on stuff that is nutritious.

16. I have a refrigerated cooler
But so far the only thing I keep in there is pop. Haven't been able to make it to a grocery store yet and I didn't think to before heading out.

7. *SOME* places still do
most places I go in Texas (& considering I live here, that includes a lot of places) have non-smoking ordinances. So much so that when I'm asked "smoking or non-smoking," it's a bit shocking.

11. It's even worse, we smoke in a non-smoking bar in Dallas
Oh NOOES!!!!

Early afternoon and the place is about empty but a small group of folks I play pool with are usually there.

We grab a little red cup and go back to the back where the 9' table is and smoke away... Oh NOES!

It's on Coit road south of 190 a ways if you are interested :P

FYI, been following your threads and congrats on getting going with your trucking business...Nice to be your own boss eh? :)

12. When I was a load planner/dispatcher
Edited on Tue Jul-13-10 07:57 PM by hippywife
I hated, hated, hated to have to call WM and beg for a much needed slot on a multiple stop frozen LTL delivery. Almost always ended up calling the buyer to have him call them and make them take it when my truck needed to be there. I had to turn my guys and gals around in less than a week with as many as a dozen stops from OK to the east coast and WM was always the fly in the ointment.
