New Laurie Anderson Album is awesome!
Edited on Sat Jun-26-10 09:20 PM by hippywife
NPR Morning Edition interviewed her this morning. Great interview, BTW! They have a link to listen to her first new album in 10 years in its entirety. I'm almost through listening to it now and it is so AWESOME!!

Edited to add the interview link, it's best to listen to the interview as a lot is missing from the transcript on the page. She so totally rocks!:

1. I didn't know she was still producing anything.
Always wondered whatever happened to her. Listening to the first cut now and it is good :)

3. This entire album is
extremely listenable all the way through. I sat here and listened as the sun went down and it turned dark, it was an awesome experience all the way round.

11. Okay, I was kind of bleary when I answered your question last night.

I haven't been a long time devotee of Laurie Anderson so I had no point of reference for what you asked. I remember her from a long time ago, but I didn't follow her art or career at the time. There were two things that happened this week that drew me to her: one was seeing pics of her in the Mermaid Parade and then within just a couple of days hearing her interviewed on NPR. I was drawn in as if it were meant to be by the serendipitous occurrence of those two things happening in such close proximity to each other in time.

So now I've spent a lot of time the last couple of days reading about her and listening to her work and finding myself loving her and who she is and what she's about. Enjoying doing now what I didn't do back then. What a magnificent artist and deep thinker she is.

So why don't you give me some examples of what in those albums that you love and abhor? Share your impressions with me, won't you?

:hi:

5. I thought I just read where she wrote and produced some concerts for dogs...
.
...and their people -- maybe in Australia?

10. No, she wasn't.
Loni Anderson: Laurie Anderson

The former had two, um, stellar reasons to keep viewers coming to WKRP. The latter has four big clocks, and they're all ticking. This is the time, and this is the record of the time. We are all going down together; let X=X; hallelujah, yodel-ay-hee-hoo.

15. As God is my witness...
I thought Laurie Anderson was blonde and had much bigger boobs.

14. I'm in complete agreement with you.
I downloaded it (legally) last week and finally had a chance to really listen to it, she can still deliver, and more importantly make you think.

16. didn't know you were a fan! (big alternative music person
here.)

Saw her here many years ago - wonderfully innovative and fun artist. Cool. Have to look into it. Also love that she's married to Lou Reed!
