Something spooky and beautiful happened last night!
Edited on Sat Jun-19-10 11:09 AM by JitterbugPerfume
There was a thunder storm and a strong wind was blowing.

I looked out my front door and there was a huge tree limb in my yard . My eyes traveled upward, and there was a limb on the power line across the road .It looked like it had those little white twinkle lights in it that some people put on Christmas trees.

UH OH! I called the Power Company and got a busy signal. After trying a few more times I finally got a person , and promptly got put on hold.

In the meantime the light show became more intense. Soon the "light" was traveling down the length of the branch, and finally it was the forth of July and out went the lights!

It was strangely mesmerizing and beautiful to watch .

Unfortunately it was only eight thirty and my whole life requires electricity.

It causes one to reflect on the fragility of the technology that we all depend on.

When I got up this morning everything was back to normal.

I had three cats in bed with me --scardy cats!

1. I was driving around on my route last night in some storms
I have to get out and unload the truck outdoors and for that reason I don't like rain and snow. I was fortunate not to get soaked, but lord knows I have been drenched on many occasions.

But when I'm at home, and I've got time to relax, I can really get into a good thunder storm. The best are when the weather man comes on in the middle of a show and warns you that a funnel cloud has been spotted. I don't wish anyone any harm, but that element of danger actually heightens the excitement of experiencing the storm.

2. I love a good storm too Tobin!
I find them exciting and unpredictable .They stir primal instincts and heighten the senses

Mom always used to said GET AWAY FROM THAT WINDOW, but I just had to watch!

3. I was raised in Michigan..
.
.
.
.
...on the edge of a tornado alley.
.
.
.
.
I was about 8 years old when this particular tornado watch took
place (a watch is when conditions are extremely favorable -- a
warning when there's been one spotted).
.
.
.
.
Driving rain. Dark dark DARK midday. HIGH winds.
.
.
.
.
My family went down to our unfinished cinderblock basement to
wait it out.
.
.
.
.
They noticed I wasn't there.
.
.
.
.
MiddleFingerMomDad found me in the front yard, arms wrapped
around the trunk of a tree, waiting and WANTING to be IN the
storm. He had to pry me off that tree trunk and drag me into
the house, hollering and crying about the unfairness of it all.
.
.
.
.
I've ALWAYS loved storms and get right in the middle of 'em
when I can.
.
.
.
.
MiddleFingerMomMom just KNEW that there was something or
somebody that looked out for those with no sense 'tall... based
solely on the fact that I had survived for so long.
.

6. it gives you that feeling of vulnerability
that out distant ancestors must have experienced in the dark .

I live alone in a fairly isolated place, except for my cats.

Dark and storm ---an interesting combination ! Exhilarating in a strange way.

7. I was in Michigan in the winter and saw basically the same thing.
Ice covered the wires, they were very thick with ice. A short started, and a big glow appeared and sparking and burning on the wires, then the electro went out.
It was a cold night.

9. I saw ball lightning once, when I was a kid.
It was amazing, just a big ball of light rolling down a hill in the middle of the night.

The only other near-electricity event I've had was when we went sailing on a little catamaran and a storm blew up. We got to shore and were taking down all the rigging when I looked around and realized everyone's hair was standing straight up. We all jumped in our cars and lit out. Near as I know no one got struck but it was very eerie!
