Would you use a live political forum chatroom?
I am thinking about creating a live political forum chat room, and was wondering if many people would use it.
There would be more real-time back-and-forth communication than a regular forum, which would create a different experience.
Anyone interested?

3. You bet!
Did anyone here go to Howard Dean's chatroom (Chat for America) in 2004? That was a great group! I also used to go to Wes Clark's room.

4. I thought that was
what DU was, more or less. I doubt I would use another one, plus the political discussions have gotten way too heated for me even among just Dems, so I avoid them usually.

So, I guess my answer would be no. Life's too damn short to spend it arguing with a bunch of people you don't even know.

5. probably not
i only get on du or computers in general at sporatic times-not condusive to extended chat

would anticipate there would be a large number of flame wars--dont have time for that.
I live in a very republican area--if i want to argue i can just go outside.

We are going into an election cycle. Chat rooms seem to be like contimplating ones navel.
the teabaggers are active while we verbally masterbate on a keyboard. chat after you circulate someones nomination papers--as i plan to do later today--the circulating thing not the other thing....

6. It sounds like a great place... for me to poop on!
I think live chats can be a strong organizing tool. But if it's an ongoing venue, then it'll attract people with a lot of time on their hands and a lack of drive to do anything more that sit around on the internet griping about stuff. If it's an occasional thing that's servicing an existing group and helping them plan targeted activities, it would be potentially quite powerful.

7. No. I have never found "chat" to be condusive to well-formed ideas or discussions.
Here at DU interaction can be very fast, fast enough for me.

8. Which topics would produce interesting real-time debates?
Thank you for your replies. Here are a few more details, please let me know what you think:
Scheduled 10-minute debates will address issues that people have opposing views of. For example, has Obama done a good job thus far?
Rather than pre-planning their responses, users will be challenged to think on their feet, with clever real-time responses to their opponents statements.
It will be like a heads-up poker match, or a cocktail party conversation, where you can't spend minutes preparing each reply.
The debate logs can be posted on this forum. The objective will be to convince others of your point of view, and to demonstrate how smart and witty you are in a real-time debate.

Which topics will produce the most interesting debates?
