Words and music by Rafael Pérez Botija

I made you a promise of love one sixth of May
that was thirty years ago,
and I still love you

We made a treasure of love, sitting by the fireplace
I am your prisoner of love
and you my jailer

What will happen tomorrow
If you leave, and I remain?
Be it far, or be it near?
Where you go I will go,
and where you stay I will stay. (Ruth 1:16)

I made you a promise of love one sixth of May
that was thirty years ago,
and you are still attractive

And I keep, next to my bridal bouquet
memories of a thousand girlish things
the hours I spent next next to you
sitting on your lap.

14. Here's your story, my dear demtenjeep...
I was dating a young man long ago; we were practically engaged. I'd met him in college. One day out of the blue, he tells me that he thinks we haven't dated enough other people, and he is going to go away from me to do that. He then tells me that he's given my name and phone number to a mutual friend.

I was livid. How dare he? But he was gone, and I was alone. So, when the mutual friend called, I went out with him. I was NOT about to spend Saturday night alone in my dorm.

We had a quiet nice time. I let him kiss me...We kept going out, week after week. I found I respected him, and he me. I told him to respect my boundaries, and he did. We got to know one another, to care about each other. There was a lot to respect about him. For one thing, he was (and still is) a terrific piano player. It's heaven to have music in your home, live music.

One day I decided I respected him so much that I could love him; I fell in love at that point. 6 months after we'd met, we were engaged; 6 months after that, we were married...

Oh, and the boy who left? He came back, too late, as it turns out. I felt bad, but I no longer wanted to marry him. I'd found the man I would marry and he wasn't it. I hope he found someone; he truly deserved to be happy.

That's the story!
