County Fair season coming up. Here's ours:
Alameda County Fair June 23 to July 11.

Has the oldest 1 mile horseracing track in the country. Dates back to 1858.

Plus some cool music this year including:
Grand Funk, Tower of Power, and Little Feat, plus an always good Blues show on the 4th of July.

Grand Funk Railroad is scheduled to perform July 8. The concert is free with fair admission.
Michael Jackson tribute band Foreverland will perform June 23; singer Johnny Rivers June 24; singer Uncle Kracker June 25; Oakland-based soul group Tower of Power June 26; Latin artist Diana Reyes June 27; Christian singer Natalie Grant June 28; Journey tribute band Evolution, June 30; Country singer Crystal Gayle July 1; Rock band Little Feat July 2; R&B group Con Funk Shun July 3; A blues festival will be held July 4; Christian music group Newsboys will perform July 5; Beatles Majesty, a Beatles tribute band, on July 7; Country group Lonestar July 10 and rock group War on July 11.

Plus an unlimited supply of Shamwows and Miracle Cleaner! Who could ask for more?

1. Ours isn't until Labor day weekend. We have the distinction of being the
basis for the county fair in "Charlotte's Webb."

2. That's an excellent distinction!
Sounds like a great fair. I'd love to see antique tractor pulling. I bet those guys have a blast participating.

3. We've stopped going in the last few years. :^( Just been too expensive and most of the
family doesn't care anymore.

4. I'm torn over the Grand Funk show
I saw them at the Cow Palace on the "Shinin' On" tour (opening acts Wet Willie and Climax Blues Band), which was ultimately was documented on the "Caught In The Act" album:

1. Footstompin' Music
2. Rock 'N Roll Soul
3. I'm Your Captain/Closer To Home
4. Heartbreaker)
5. Some Kind Of Wonderful
6. Shinin' On
7. The Loco-Motion
8. Black Licorice
9. The Railroad
10. We're An American Band
11. T.N.U.C.
12. Inside Looking Out
13. Gimme Shelter

...but how the fuck can Grand Funk Railroad be Grand Funk Railroad without Mark Farner?

The current band is Don Brewer and Mel Schacher plus:

Max Carl – lead vocals (2000–present)
Bruce Kulick – guitars (2000–present)
Timothy "Tim" Cashion – keyboards (2000–present)

...so 2/3 of Grand Funk...minus the frontman...isn;t Grand Funk (and if you consider the Craig Frost years, it's one HALF of Grand Funk).

:toast:

5. It won't be "Grand Funk" in the true sense, just as Little Feat isn't the same without Lowell.
But they'll do the "greatest hits" thing and put on a good show, and it's free so no harm no foul if they suck. :)
