Is anyone here observing Facebook Quit Day?
http://www.quitfacebookday.com/

I don't FB, and the "revelations" about their messed up approach to managing users' alleged privacy were not a shock to me, so I don't need to, you know, quit. But is anyone else doing it on this particular day?

2. Oh noes!!! People will know what videos I like
I don't post anything intimate on FB.

I admit that I really like FB because it's let me reconnect with people from my past and learn mildly interesting things about my friends.

6. Damn you and your sense of perspective!
Seriously. Anything that I put on FB can be found quicker somewhere else. Since I'm a semi-public figure (former elected official), there's a fair amount on my background available from old interviews, state web sites, etc. If someone finds out that I listen to a lot of U2 and New Order and am a Lost geek via Facebook, the republic shall endure.

3. I permanently deleted my account (not just 'deactivated) - it takes 14 DAYS to take effect
Edited on Fri May-28-10 06:55 AM by Richardo
If you logon during that period they reinstate your account and you have to cancel all over again - and wait another 14 days. Sleazebags.

5. Most of this is stoked by would-be competitors
The much ballyhooed Gizmodo article was written by a guy involved in another social networking media firm.

7. I don't post anything there that I'm worried about
except maybe my birthday.

I'm past the age where there are embarrassing photos popping up (thank god) and my social life involves my SO and I taking care of my elderly dad and his dachshund

The only place I post personal info is on DU.....

8. Since I haven't done facebook in about 6 months I guess I'm part of that team
Tried then and well think I would rather just pick up the phone and call those that I want to keep in touch with.

9. FB has allowed me to connect with long lost cousins. Several
from Canada who I haven't seen since I was a kid. And I've reconnected with old high school friends too.

I am grateful for it.
