Who is spending Xmas alone?
well, I blew off spending xmas with my family, and then the weather screwed up my travel plans, so I get to spend xmas alone, because my family are still pissed off at me. I'm the only unmarried child with no kids, and the only one that has been to college, let alone graduate from high school. I'm religious apathetic, cant stand organized religions - my family would insist I go to church. Politics is a no-go, its Fox 24/7, any challenges end up in a shouting match. I loathe the holidays. I'll probably stock up on Popeyes chicken for Xmas day. I got coupons..I hate xmas

1. Me. I will probably be snowed in, but that's OK.
I'll just sit around the house with the cats and some wine, and have a good old time by myself, then get together with family after the snow stops.

Saturday afternoon we are having a party at my niece's house.
But tomorrow and the next, I'll be here with my meowers.

I don't mind.

Less chances for arguments, also.

8. For me it's my Dad.
VERY opinionated, makes the Freepers look like liberals, going deaf so he gets loud a lot.

He's outnumbered though big time.
So he gets louder. :eyes:

26. Fights with family members are always fun before Christmas, too.
Edited on Thu Dec-24-09 09:22 AM by zanana1
My sister recently told me I was heartless because I don't spend enough time visiting our 96 year-old aunt living in a nursing home. I took care of our mother at home for ten years, but that doesn't seem to matter when another old person is inconvenient for her. I absolutely dread our Christmas gathering tomorrow. I hate acting like I'm not pissed, and it's ruining any love I have for this holiday.

4. I've spent Christmas alone for the better part of the last 10 years
except for those times I had to work. I don't mind, I don't have to keep to anyone else's schedule and the cat doesn't bitch about anything (unless I don't give her bites, THEN she bitches!). I make a chicken since it's just me and it usually turns out pretty good.

6. Me too
My daughter invited me over to her BF's family home, but there is no way in hell I want to meet them.
They insult my daughter, drink heavily EVERY night and are all around obnoxious.
My daughter doesn't drink much and I have told her she is MORE than welcome to live here at home, but for now she is staying with the bum boyfriend.
I would definitely speak my mind if I were there, and that is not how I wish to spend Christmas.

Edited on Thu Dec-24-09 04:54 AM by AsahinaKimi
It is considered a Romantic Holiday in Japan, and most people even work that day, so since I am not there, and its a Friday, I will be at home..enjoying the quiet and solitude of my home.. and play on my computer until the weekend is over!

I did learn how to say it in Mandarin: Shen dan Kuai Le
and in Japanese: Meri Kurisumasu!

And no traveling, probably just take a drive to look atother people's decorations. Spend most of the day cooking and eating afer opening our presents in the AM.
Has no religious significance for us, but I will celebrate anybody's holiday as long as they have good food.
Have a great day whatever you are doing!!!

Might see some of you here.

24. Just people-wise
My kitties will be here, so I will not be alone. I despise the holidays, too. I am an agnostic, who detests organized religion. So, Xmas is just another day for me, except that the whole fucking town will be shut down. I can't even go work out at the gym. It's supposed to rain all day, so not much I can do outdoors. There will probably be nothing but Xmas junk on TV, so I'm guessing I'll be watching a lot of old movies, or hanging out here. Popeye's sounds good. I'm having a tamale and some Stoke's green chili. Maybe I'll clean the carpets.

25. Remember....Christmas only lasts for one day.
I have lots of family, and sometimes I can't wait until Christmas is over. (Like this year). But I console myself with the knowledge that it's only one day. Don't buy into the commercial hype of the holidays. Find something else to do with that one day. And remember, plenty of us will be here.

28. Is it so bad?
I am also spending Xmas alone, not ideal, but the folks are away and to be honest it suits me just fine! I could have travelled abroad to see them, but after the worst year of my life, recession, debt, I don't really feel like celebrating, don't get me wrong i am not bah humbug but i am just quite happy not having to have the expense of christmas! Also, I can't really be bothered putting on a face wishing happy xmas etc when i am just not in the spirit!

Gosh I sound so miserable but I don't mean to! So, Xmas for me, is going to be a long lie, a lot of DVD's and just generally chilling out - i guess it is what you make it! I may see some of you on here!

Heres to choice (ill drink to that!)

I am not alone but the kids are with their father this Christmas. We are too far away to visit family so it will just be DO and the baby. We are going our for Chinese tomorrow with our neighbors though. :)

We never really have "normal" Christmas'. To us the holidays are anytime we want them to be.

It's usually nice for bike riding with the roads deserted. Alas, with last weekend's snow, it's too treacherous on my wheels. With freezing rain in the forecast, I guess I'll use the extended indoor time for the slow scanning of photos for my next photo/video project.

And I don't mind solitude at all.

My car is crammed full with cameras, strobes, stands, backgrounds, etc. and it's my mission to take the best family portraits that they have ever seen. Then every time they look at their photo album they're going to remember that weird, crazy, not-right-in-the-head guy with the camera.

45. I fucking WISH.
I'd give almost anything to avoid my girlfriend's family. Here's a sample of what I got to hear tonight:

"You've been living together for so long, there's no reason for you not to be married. What, are you afraid the sex will stop?"

"There's something not right when your hair is longer than my daughter's. What's it like touring with Aerosmith?"

(Mother to daughter here) "Do me a favor and try to keep your legs shut tonight. We'll want a good night's sleep."

(Then she turns to me here) "You CAN keep your hands off of her for a couple days, can't you? If you can't hold out that long, you're eventually going to cheat on her anyways."

(The father, who is Italian, looking at our DVDs, noticing all of the Sopranos seasons, and addressing his daughter) "Figures. These are his, right? I know you know better than to buy into stereotypes like this. This is exactly what I'd expect from someone with a Russian mother, they're the ones with the real mafia and they're always trying to blame it on us."

Just wait until presents are opened in about 16-17 hours. I can only imagine the condescending shit we're going to take.

I've had some real zingers thrown at me when my husband and I were young and newly together. His family (originally from Yonkers) were also Italian but I think there are rude people from every ethnicity/nationality. My father who is Irish/German was also pretty rude, particulary when drinking.

I'll be going to the neighbor's later. We're doing surf and turf, followed by lots of fun playing Wii. We're all in our second childhoods now!

55. Alone, by choice.
I went to my neighbor's last night which was wonderful a time. But today I'm content to be home with my critters. I went to make our family's holiday salad and opened the wrong kind of pineapple which inspired me to clean out the pantry. (I fixed the salad situation so that turned out okay.) Yesterday I got through the year's receipts and organized the info I have so far for taxes. I can see the bottom of my desk.

It seems a bit weird, but I feel pretty comfortable. Right now, I'm gonna go get me some puppy kisses!
