Who are the real musicians of the decade?
This is the list of top selling songs. Not my cup of tea,any of them. But to each their own.

So, just to contrast with these critical lists of the decade, I thought I would offer you a peak at the top ten best-selling singles in the world since 2000. They tell their own story:

1. Hips Don’t Lie (featuring Wyclef Jean) – Shakira
2. Crazy In Love (featuring Jay-Z) – Beyonce
3. My Humps – Black Eyed Peas
4. Toxic – Britney Spears
5. Womanizer – Britney Spears
6. Oops!… I Did It Again – Britney Spears
7. Stan – Eminem
8. Low – Flo Rida
9. Boulevard Of Broken Dreams – Green Day
10. I Kissed A Girl – Katy Perry
11. Just Dance (featuring Colby O’Donis) – Lady Gaga
12. Bleeding Love – Leona Lewis
13. Hung Up – Madonna
14. We Belong Together – Mariah Carey
15. So What – Pink
16. Umbrella (featuring Jay-Z) – Rihanna
17. Whenever, Wherever – Shakira
18. Underneath Your Clothes – Shakira
19. La Tortura – Shakira
20. Can’t Get You Out Of My Head – Kylie Minogue

1. Most of those artists I could take or leave, but I love Shakira.
I think a lot of her Spanish stuff is amazing, but a lot of her English stuff is pretty great as well. Her MTV Unplugged CD and DVD are in frequent rotation at home and in my car, it's one of the best live performances I've ever seen. She's really an incredible artist.

2. I love Shakira, too, albeit for perhaps different reasons.

Yowza.

Although not to be completely shallow, she does have a uniquely distinctive voice. And apparently she writes her own lyrics, which sound awkardly sexy with that voice of hers. (i.e. "Lucky that my breasts are small and humble, so you don't confuse them with mountains."--if this were sung by anyone else it would be annoying, but she pulls it off quite nicely.)

3. You are so very correct.
I was trying to take the high road by not mentioning her unbelievable body, but yeah, she's definitely got that. And her lyrics are amazing. I think a lot of it comes from her writing process where she generally thinks in Spanish and translates into English. A lot of the lyrics might look a bit unusual on paper, but as you say, she typically pulls it off rather well.

4. I'd say the only artists I dislike there are the BEP and Lady Gaga

Mariah is a big meh to me, at least with the new stuff. Britney is sometimes entertaining, but I'm not a fan really. Rap isn't my thing, but Eminem's good. Haven't heard Flo Rida. The rest I just plain like as good pop.

For more singer/songwriter type, I LOVE artists such as A Fine Frenzy, Regina Spektor, Josh Ritter, Andrew Bird, etc.

5. I don't know most of the people/groups on that list
The only one I like is Madonna, and I think of her as a performer, as opposed to a musician.

6. I love most of those songs
I'm not a Beyonce or Flo Rida fan though. But the rest of the songs I like, particularly the Britney songs and Hung Up.

8. I must admit I've never heard a single one of these.
But have you checked out Coltrane & Cannonball Adderly's "Limehouse Blues" lately?
