i saw that epi of andrew zimmern when he went to minnesota (or was it wisconsin?) and everyone was scarfing that crap up. almost as bad as stinky tofu!

all my grandmother`s kin lived in the austin area and thank god my swedish grandmother and her sisters never eat that stuff.

When I visited Minnesota last spring even all the people I hung out with up there refuse to touch the stuff. I thought gefilte fish was nasty!

I'm half. My Grandmother used to have that too. Even smothered in fresh horseradish, too disgusting for words.

that's the stuff that Scandinavians had to eat before refrigeration.

My mom is from a Norwegian family, and has had lutefisk before, but I've never seen her eat it, and I don't think she'd want to.

We've never been subjected to it.

I grew up away from Minnesota and the Scandinavian heritage, so I've missed out a bit on some of the traditional foods - just as well on the lutefisk, cod and herring, as I hate fish - had lefsa once, though, and that was pretty good - be happy to have that on occasion :D

13. I LOVE lutefisk!
Smothered in white sauce, with mashed potatoes, rice pudding and Swedish sausage - the perfect Christmas dinner. We call it "snow-blind" cooking, with the variations of white and gray.

I converted my husband to the cult of Lutefisk, and am working on my children.
