If you are, I could use some prayers or good thoughts.

My internal struggles (depression; anxiety; bursts of anger and losses in self-esteem) have come to a head this evening for some reason, and it's kind of getting in the way of my concentrating on the reading I need to complete for my two courses tomorrow (which may or may not be in session b/c of snow).

Really, even if you hate my guts, would you mind sending at least a few good thoughts my way?

I've struggled with all of those except the anger issue. It ain't easy sometimes, but I muddle through it. I have faith in you, Writer, that you will get through it too. And I can't imagine that anyone here "hates your guts" either. I wish nothing but the best for you, and I have a very strong hunch that everyone else here does too.

Go to a room that doesn't have a computer, radio, or TV. Take a deep breath and let it out slowly. Bring yourself into the moment, calm and relaxed. Begin reading- focus. None of that other stuff matters right now.

I printed out the text on parchment in a fancy font and framed it on my desk at work. I find them stabilizing and liberating, especially in times of self-doubt.

Something I found helpful in grad school when I couldn't do all the reading was to be sure to plan out 2-3 really good things to say about the stuff I did read. Jump into the discussion with both feet at those points, and then when the class was talking about the stuff I didn't read I'd just sit there with a facial expression intended to convey that I was totally just about to say what that other student said, but s/he beat me to it...
