Pineapple Express: Love it or leave it?
I just watched it last night. I wasn't expecting to like it. I'm not a big fan of bromance, to put it mildly, and I reached my Seth Rogen tolerance threshhold when ads for Zak and Miri Make a Porno first started appearing last spring. Perhaps finding out that Kevin Smith feels responsible for exploding Rogen's career with that movie, thus validating that my nausea over those ads was probably not an isolated case, made me feel somewhat more open to pre-Zak and Miri Rogen.

In any case, I have to say that, while the bromance still turns me off--I especially hate the way female characters are reduced to whining trophies for nebbish stoners in these movies, mere symbols of loss of freedom--the slapstick was pretty consistently hilarious. I wasn't expecting that. So while I won't say I loved the whole movie, I have to say the enjoyably stupid dialogue and total ridiculousness of the violence won me over.

:spray: :applause:

1. I thought it was dumb.
I usually like stoner comedies, but this one was just too dumb.

2. You think bromance has peaked?
Is Apatow on the way out?

9. I liked Apatow
I think he still has a lot of good stuff left. I hate the term bromance.

10. The term is one of the things I hate about it.
But I can see how it got the name. The theme of these movies is that love between hetero males is always purer than love between the sexes. And in this movie, they really make the romance explicit.

3. An awful piece of trash.
Couldn't get past more than 30 minutes of this awful movie.

4. Well, you missed the best parts, that's for sure.
There's no doubt that the first part is bottom of the barrel stupid. Then it becomes apparent that the stupid is at the service of a pretty delightfully grotesque slapstick. In my humble opinion, anyway.

7. Maybe there's something wrong with me...
I laughed during the visits to Red's house.
